Most antibiotics would kill the bad stuff, but also the good bacteria. Often - good bacteria keep candida - the yeast in check, preventing it from taking over. But as we kill the bacteria - the yeast - candida can start going crazy -taking over. That's why I always do the candida treatment as I take antibiotics or even supplements that kills bacteria.

There is a difference between simple yeast and candida. The first is actually part of our biota and it needed for proper digestion. Candida is, using simple terms "simple yeast that became like a gang- destructive and even dangerous." It forms colonies and layers and can take over the system. Rather difficult to deal with, and close to impossible to get rid of since we do need yeast. After my treatment for SIBO and Candida - always supplement the good probiotics and simple yeast (i.e. Florastor is a simple yeast)

Thanks, Hala. That's helpful to know. I did buy Florastor from Walmart when i picked up the antibiotics on the recommendation of the pharmacist. She knew her stuff and shared. I learn so much more from pharmacists than doctors, sometimes.

Why is everything I like on the High FODMAP list? I actively make the decision to be uncomfortable for a couple days when I choose things like refried beans and certain veggies. It's risk vs reward thing for me. And there are very few rewards as yummy as dive shop taco quality refried beans when I'm having a dive taco shop taco. I mean, I actively plan it out. Will I be in a closed area I can't escape the next couple of days like a show? Or dinner at a friends house? Life is hard, I'm choosing my hard!

Lisa, there is "uncomfortable" and "pain you scream to". I don't mind uncomfortable once in a while, but when SIBO gets to be a serious problem - I would wake up scramming in pain, unable to talk, to breathe... I joke when I say I stat having gas when I see beans. But I would not eat beans even in my doc would tell me "it's ok". I could get a severe pain after eating 1/2 sandwich - that had a piece of lettuce and some spices on meat that my body decided it doesn't like.

I'm not diminishing your discomfort, just there could be different levels of that.

I'm not at all comparing my situation to yours. I'm responding on a personal level to a post by Lana. Two things can be true at once. I feel for you and your situation. But my body has its own agenda.

I know you guys eat yogurt... but it has to be live cultures.

Most yoghurts on grocery stores have been pasteurized which unfortunately means they don't work.

I did not say you compared yourself to me. Nor di dI try to dimis your disomfort level. I can relate with your "discomfort" and cramps and pain your deal with when eating some foods. I've been dealing with that latley and iit getting worse and worse. But I still can shrag it off.. and ... enjoy some foods that I won't even consider when my SIBO is in a real horrible flare.

I'm still waiting to start my antibiotcs treatment becase I have some procedures scheduled plus 1-2 day travels, that I can't have/do when I'm on antibiotics.

I was just saying that consuming some foods on high FODMAP list, even small qty - i.e. spices like "everything bagel" or Montreal steak seasoning - when that stuff makes me cry in pain, then I know I'm in a really bad place. After I treat the IBS condition, then supplement with the probiotics + simple yeast. I may have a few months that I can tolerate much more foods and spices. Even broccolie (but not beans)... Unfortunately that eventually leads to return of SIBO and Candida.

I do treatments when my symptoms are at 75-80% of the worst reactions I ever had. I don't want to go to 90-100%. At that level - only drinking strong alcohol and getting drunk and passing out was often the only thing that would stop the severe cramps and pain. Something I really don't want to do.

Now - I often can deal with the crmaps - pain using 2-3 hyoscyamine sulfate, sublingual. I can eat some white bread, lettuce, even apples ... But in limited qty and only some types of that.

Turns out I'm trendy. Pretty much zero FODMAP. I wish I could say it was by design.

Sounds like you and the doctor have a good plan. I am glad you've got a good doc now.
