Ollie is a sweetie when he wants to be! I almost ended up with a Newfie last weekend. Phew!

Caviar is mostly beyond me. I've had plenty of roe on sushi and such...guess it's okay to sample very lightly. Really just something I want for my mom. She gives so much of herself and never does anything for herself. I know she loves it but wouldn't ever buy any because SD does not. I'm a good excuse. :)

Yep, tuna steak. I haunt the meat wall at Walmart at 6am to see what's being marked down. $3 tuna steaks work. Marinated in some ginger, bit of honey, garlic and more. Good but tons of leftovers! I'm very happy with how the lobster turned out considering I've never cooked anything remotely like it before.

Good morning and happy Friday! And a long weekend to boot! yay!!

For some unknown reason, I've been up since about 1. I read for about half and hour, tried to go back to sleep but finally got up about 2:15. I have had two cups of coffee and watched the Yellowjackets finale. Now I'll go get in a workout and then I'll start work; I have 2 specific things I want to get done for work today and 1 meeting so it should be a good day and I should be ready for a nap by noon. I won't get one, I'll just be ready for one.

The roofer/claims adjuster thing yesterday seems to have gone well; will probably be next week or the week after before I know more from the insurance company which will be the big answer, I guess. My neighbors claims adjuster is coming on Sunday to look at their place so I told him I'd show him all the things around the house (not on the roof) that they pointed out to me.

Lots of good plans this weekend, nice mix of activities with friends, obligations with graduations and some chill time for me. Can't wait.

QOTD - Hello, I am partlypollyanna, the Optimistic!

menu today will be

coffee plus half and half x 2, plus some black tea

PB English muffin

skyr or light and fit (the summer Lemon Meringue pie is out (here at least))

individual pizza

Pix today are Timothy Dragon with his solar flames when I got home the other night and the roses I planted an hour before the hailstorm; they are thriving, clearly, but you can see where their leaves took a beating.

Have a fantastic day and safe travels to everyone taking a long weekend break away from home.

There is not a truer name for you. You nailed that. I also don't have to say how I feel about those roses. Wow.

Good morning all. Not much going on, except for getting everything ready before traveling -- extra watering for new plants, getting all the laundry and dishes done, etc. We need to watch the Yellowjackets finale too.

QOTD: Grim the Immutable.

There was a QOTD recently about math. I've been cleaning out closets and such recently, and came across my old math tools -- slide rules and my first ever calculator. Man, that thing was state of the art. It even did square roots. Square roots!

I had a high school chemistry teacher who was amazing. She was the niece of a Boston cardinal from way back, was one of the top ranked tennis players in the country, and flew herself to vacations on weekends. And a beautiful mind math wiz. She wouldn't let us use calculators on tests, but did allow slide rules. You could read a math problem from a book and she would solve it as fast as she could write it on the board. She knew the logarithm tables. I asked her how she memorized the logarithm tables, and she looked at me in a very sad way. You don't memorize a table, she said. You just know the answer. "A logarithm is the quantity representing the power to which a fixed number must be raised to produce a given number. Just do the math. You don't need a published table."

I don't even know what a slide rule is. I mean, I know it's one of the things in your picture, but that's all I have, lol.

It does mathy stuff! No batteries required. Hey, they did all the math to build the atomic bombs with these things. But I'd have to do some studying to figure them out again. It is NOT like riding a bike.
