my parents used to have Derby Day parties back in the 70s. They'd make mint juleps and people would bet on the horses - my dad would keep track of all that and make sure people got paid out (if they bet correctly, that is). They must have stopped that when we moved to North Carolina.

yes, we do all that. We make the betting simple you pay $5 a horse I put all the names in a hat you pull one out if your horse wins you win the full amount. If no one is scratched it is $115 right now.
