not everyone dumps - I never have. I seem to remember hearing/reading that only about 30% of us are dumpers. I was kind of hoping I would be one since it would be a reminder not to overindulge in fat and/or sugar, but alas, I am not!

Technically we don't dump on fat. We can get "fat flash" episodes.

Upping after sugar - almost always results in RH after that.

yea - I'd always thought that (that we don't dump on fat), but I've heard enough people say they do that it made me wonder. I know eating too much of it at one sitting makes me feel like crap, but I don't dump.

Many refer to it as dumping whenever they feel like crap after eating something. Dumping is technically a specific reaction to specific food content. It's not much comfort when you feel awful and someone says "Don't worry -- it's not dumping." Even if it still isn't dumping.

Some fats are worse than others. Some fats can irritate the liver and bile gets dumped into the intestines and people get runs.

Pure MCT oil does that to me. Not only I get cramps , nausea and runs, but I also get severe heart palpitations. And the irritation last for at lest 12 hrs.

I also became lactose intolerant and get sick when eating anything with too much fat. I used to love milkshakes and ice cream. Now they are scary thoughts.

I was sure I was not a dumper until I dumped one day. It was a little over five years after my RNY. It was Halloween night. I had worked late and got home about 1:00 AM. There was a bowl of little Tootsie Rolls on the table and I ate a few of them. All at once I started sweating and was lightheaded. It lasted about 20 minutes and went away. A few weeks later, I ate the same candy while I was fixing dinner and the same thing happened.

I realized that I just had avoided sugar very well for five years. For me it is eating pure sugar on an empty stomach. If I eat sugar after a meal, I do not usually have the immediate dumping but it will often happen later. My body just does not deal with sugar any more.

Yep, it's definitely your own journey, but that doesn't mean you can't compare notes and experiences for benchmarking. :)

Congrats on your progressions and successes so far!

It's great that you are tolerating the food well. Being careful is really important.

I tolerated a lot of foods that other post op RNY couldn't.

But it took me 4 years ormore to tolerate carrots. I could have a bite or 2. But if I ate more than that, it would get stuck. No matter how well I chew them, or even if there were shreded in a salad. The weirdest thing. I still have a mild aversion to raw carrots because of afew incidences.
