Alexandre Dumas (son) wrote most of his output in what he called his factory, using similar methods.

I think I remember reading somewhere that some of the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books were written by the same authors (there were a few of them, and most used pen names...)

Do you remember the Hardy Boys tv show? My older sister had a crush on Parker Stevenson. Was it Shawn Cassidy who played the other brother? He had the best feathered hair! So dreamy! LOL

yes - it was Shaun Cassidy. My sister had the hots for him. Or maybe that was Leif Garrett. It's been so long I don't remember!

me too! (i.e., I liked Trixie Belden books!)

Nancy Drew books were revised over the years. I had some from the 1920s or 30s that belonged to someone's aunt or something. In the first book ("Secret of the Old Clock"), in the original edition she was 16 years old and blonde. In the editions that were current when I was reading them (late 60s, I think), she was 18, had titian hair, and drove a convertible. The stories were changed a little, too. So anyway, I think how modern (or not) she seemed may depend on the edition... (if you meant modern as in when the books were written, I think whoever said they were written during the same era is probably right - although new Nancy Drew books continued to be written for a few decades (by different authors), whereas I'm not sure if Trixie Belden books were)

I also read some Encyclopedia Brown. I rarely could solve the mystery like he could.
