yes - I did this. I weighed 146 and thought I'd have another 10 or more lbs I could lose, so I wanted to do the scan to see how much further I needed to go. Nope. DEXAscan showed I had 21% body fat, which is considered very lean for a female. The tech - and my PCP - said I was done and needed to stop (I ended up losing another eight lbs after that and looked pretty ghastly - so yes, they were right...)

I learned in my nutrition class that the percentage of body fat is a much more accurate way to tell if you're underweight, normal, overweight, or obese than the BMI scale is. Makes sense since most football players would be considered "obese" by BMI standards, even though they're all muscle. So yes - DEXAscans are helpful as it's a pretty accurate way of measuring body fat.

(I just checked online - actually, 21% fat would be considered underweight for a female age 40-59 (I was in that range when I had the scan). Normal weight starts at 23% for that category of person. So I was "underweight" at 146 lbs. No wonder I looked so awful at 138!)

Huh. Didn't know that metric kicked in for that age range, of which I am a member. Good to know, and thanks for sharing. I'm seeing a research trend from you this week. #learning!

Thanks, Jim!

After Trish posted about it a month or so ago, I called around to my providers. My clinic and PCP don't offer body scans. I really need to look up the nutritionist I used to see and just pay for it. I can look down and tell that there's a spare tire that can go but yeah, it would be very helpful to have a comprehensive scan!

Hello all

Day has been good, had a great session with my nutritionist and I enjoyed that.

Watched the first two eps of the final 5 eps of 'You' on Netflix (literally released a few hours ago), quite the twist! Can't wait to fini**** off tomorrow.

QOTD: Never. Hate unknown numbers and figure anyone who wants me will leave a voice mail. (Did become slightly more annoying last year when I was looking to leave my employer but they always left a message). I always google numbers to see if they are known spam and make sure I block them. Hate scammers!!

Food: meal remplacement shake, tuna Mexican bowl, Turkey ground savoury beef,

Have a great day!

Hi.

In response to your post yesterday. Increased eating ability is a two edged sword. On the one hand, it does leave you feeling a lot more normal. Although even now, a big restaurant meal is three servings for me.

But on the other hand, it is easier to regain if you have more capacity to eat.

Good morning all. I'd also recommend the movie Living, with Bill Nighy. It's very good.

I've tried brisket a few times, and it was never as good as it should be. It's still better than what all of my Irish relations did, which is just throw it into a pot of boiling water, with some potatoes and carrots. But it could be a lot better.

QOTD: I never answer an unknown number. I recognize any number from those I know, and the rest is crap. I never get the Chinese calls. I also get a lot of scam and spam texts. They are so obviously a scam that it's actually funny. And the spam real estate texts ask me if I want to sell houses I haven't owned for ages.

B: sausages

L: chicken

D: chicken or ham. I'm out of ham, so I need to go pick one up. Carando is on sale, and the cat just brought me my car keys
