What's on your Sunday menu?

Good mornin everyone and happy Sunday.

Yesterday went ok, my brother and the kids came over and we just hand sandwiches. I felt really cruddy yesterday. The lack of sleep and the Benadryl drug me down. We also have a cold front moving through so that's hard on my body as well. Tomorrow I have my blood patch and possibly will have the pain pump drained and then refilled. My skin as a whole is so sore...even my eyelids are itchy. Clothes and bedding just irritate it too.

No big plans for the day. Hoping to get a few rests in. Might do some light duty chainmaille and watch some stuff on Disney+.

QOTD: we know your favorite veg but what's your least favorite? Or least favorite food in general?

Veg wise it's peas. I can eat them mixed with other stuff but I hate them by themselves. I love most veggies so there is not much I won't eat. All over least favorite food in general is overly spicy food. Like Korean and a lot of Thai food...and Indian. It's not that I don't like the flavor but I'm VERY sensitive to capsaicin and get chemical like burns. I love the food but the food does not love me back. Funny thing is Thai can be my favorite too.

B: oatmeal and coffee

L: beef stew

D: probably more stew lol

S: probably a cookie if I'm honest and ???

Happy Sunday everyone. It's kind of cold and blustery here. I wanted to go on a hike today, but the weather is not cooperating. Also, there have been a lot of car thefts at the trailheads, so maybe I bundle up and just walk down to the park and walk along the river.

Melody, I hope all goes well tomorrow and you start getting some relief. Are they going to take out the staples too? I know they tried the other day and then put more in.

QOTD- I love all vegetables. If I had to choose a food group that I didn't like, it would be meat with bones. I know that probably sounds odd.

My food has been on point this week and no drinking. I know that is the key to reaching my goal. The scale is coming down and I feel good. It's going to be a great week.

Food plan for today-

Egg scramble with basil, ham, onion, and spinach

Chicken breast from last night. ( chicken topped with tomatoes, feta, basil and garlic, Kalamata olives)

Not sure on dinner

Have a great day everyone

Aww, meat with bones twin! Doesn't sound weird to me. I have to wear gloves to even be able to handle meat and that's taken years. Can add skin to the bones thing in my camp, too.

Glad to hear you're making progress, congratulations!

I don't think the meat with bones thing is odd at all. I tell people I prefer my chicken boneless, skinless and shrink-wrapped, but I really prefer all meat in filet or ground form. Except bacon, don't grind the bacon.

Good morning Mel and weekend menuers!

Well, sounds like tomorrow might bring some hope for you, so that's something to look forward to.

Picked up my friend at the airport, showed her around town ans then drove out. She lives in the country by her standards but we were still a mile from my place when she said, "Oh, you're *out* there." Yep. Her husband would love it.

My friend is asleep and I'm trying to creep around my little house and not disturb her. I'd just stay in one place if it were an option, but not with the dogs who have to get up and go out in a reasonable time. My younger dog can be talkative and if I don't get up, he'll complain about it. So mostly just doing little things and trying to keep him quiet until...I don't know. Will have some more water and work while I wait.

Today is a bit unplanned other than dropping off dogs at 10. I'll offer to make something for breakfast and have tons of stuff. Or there are a couple of family-style diners in the two nearest towns. Might see if they have a movie theater around here or something. Most everything else is outdoorsy.

QOTD- Least favorite vegetables are probably radishes of any kind, followed by some of the more bitter greens. I love most veggies and I've thoroughly tried to love these. Least favorite style of cuisine might be traditional American, honestly. Huge, fatty, meat-heavy portions of meat and potatoes is kind of the theme and my international friends are astounded by it when they're here. I do love some regional styles, for example looking forward to some creole and cajun inspired dishes in the next few days! One of my teams a few years ago had a very meat and potatoes guy. He never wanted to try anything new and only ever wanted burger and steak places. Or BBQ. Part of the fun of travel for me is trying things I can't get where I live, so that was a fun few years since I always took them where they voted to go.

Accountability- We went to a Mexican place and I had about six tortilla chips broken into small pieces and dipped in house salsa. Also had the shrimp, onions, peppers, and mushrooms from my special. No beans, no tortillas, and was able to avoid most of the rice. There was cheese sauce on the shrimp. Wish I didn't love cheese so very, very much.

Exercise- We'll see. Maybe a little walking and I did some leg lifts and stretching in bed this morning.

Menu

About to kick off with a ratio yogurt since I didn't meet my protein goals yesterday. I have a nice cup of green tea cooling. The rest is unplanned but I'll take a Built bar with me to try if we go out so I have a fallback to get there. I have a kitchen full of good food and am much more confident in restaurant choices these days.

My friend's aunt had RNY a couple years ago, so everything she knows about WLS is through that lens. She's surprised I need 90g of protein and that I can eat more than someone with a pouch, even with my size 32 bougie sleeve. She asks a lot of questions since she's been interested in it for years. Her hubby is on the do-it-through-diet-and-exercise train.

Happy Sunday everyone!

32 is a tiny sleeve. This is a chart that compares sleeve size to pens and magic markers.

That is a great graphic. All of the sleeves look really tiny to me even though I know there is a lot of stretch to the stomach.

Yep, it is! But isn't a pouch smaller still?

LOL - I'm the same - I don't like traditional American food (or not a lot of it, anyway - some dishes are OK). When I was a kid in the 60s, we only ate traditional American foods - like pot roast and meatloaf. And frozen vegetable concoctions like those little cubed carrots with peas. Or the lima beans with corn. Hated all of that. I used to have to sit at the table until I finished my dinner. By around 8:00 pm, my parents would cave and let me go to my room (or wherever). But boy did things change when ethnic cuisines started to appear on the scene ("ethnic" in the 60s was pizza, spaghetti, and La Choy chow mein on those crunchy noodles that came in a can - honestly, those were the only things I'd gladly eat when I was a kid (I can't imagine eating La Choy chow mein now, though..UGH!). This wasn't really until the 80s, though (i.e. when ethnic cuisines started to take off) - which is when my weight really started to take off, too (big surprise!)

which leads into the QOTD: I am very sensitive to bitterness - so I wasn't surprised to see that one of my genetic traits (according to 23 & Me) is an oversensitivity to bitterness. Didn't realize it was genetic! Sometimes even cabbage seems really bitter to me. But definitely things like bitter melon, watercress, and some greens. I feel like I'm ingesting quinine. But other than that, I like most vegetables. And I already mentioned foods I don't like - a lot of traditional American foods.

I ate too much yesterday thanks to that potluck. I'm still feeling really full this morning, so hopefully that'll keep up so that my calorie intake will be on the low side today. I'll exercise, too - it's way too cold and snowy to go out, but I can do cardio youtube videos. I also need to edit a video of a Zoom Webinar I hosted yesterday and get ahead on reading for my classes this week.

B/MS: (combined because it's already almost 10:30): protein shake

L: this will be late since I'm just now drinking my shake. Probably chocolate "mousse" with raspberries

AS: protein muffin and/or yogurt

D: small piece of kugel from yesterday, salad with light dressing

have a good day, everyone!

I have thought about making chow mein with crunchy noodles. I did love that dish and made mine with a combination of beef and pork. Interesting that being sensitive to bitterness is genetic. Most people in my family, including me, cannot stand peanut butter. I wonder if there is something genetic there. My mother liked it and my father hated it. I remember people offering me a cookie or piece of candy and how disappointed I would be when i bit into it and tasted peanut butter. I did not realize until I was much older that most of my siblings do not like peanut butter.
