It takes a little for it to become habit but it's so worth it when it's natural. Maybe eventually I'll convince my boss I need one. John has a small one that is basically for the monitor and I was spoiled with a whole side of my desk rising. I do have one of them at home that I got to keep when they closed the office.

I felt your neighbor response in my soul! It's hard to feel like you have to look perfect all the time when someone is in your bubble. For the six years I lived in an apartment before buying this place, I was known to wait to go out when I heard someone in the breezeway. Sometimes you just don't want to deal with it!

Good morning everybody!

Great job on your quizzes QJB.

Today, we are just about 1/3 of the way through winter. It hasn't been too bad so far. Our really bitter cold stretch overlapped with the holidays, so I wasn't outside the house anyways. I divide between hard winter and soft winter. The three weeks of March and sometimes the last week of February are soft winter. So still about 5 weeks of hard winter left.

Really the biggest difference for me is this: can I wear shorts and a sweatshirt to walk from my house to my car and my car to Crossfit without taking my life into my hands?

I have set a goal of doing 5,000 kip swings and 5,000 GHD sit-ups this year. I think that it will help with mobility and some things that I have been struggling to achieve. I am trying to think of a way to track my progress that isn't simply putting endlessly scratched off totals into my date book. Something to ponder this weekend.

Wednesday means Happy Hour, if our friends are around. ( and since they are retired, they are usually around)

QOTD: It took a long time, but yes. For those with children, you do meet a lot of people through school and sports.

Mornin' All!

it's supposed to snow tonight, but it doesn't sound like we'll get all that much in this part of the state. Still, I'll make a grocery store run just in case. I'm also planning to go to Aqua Zumba this morning and finish reading the book for my book discussion group. There's a bazillion other things I could be doing, but I haven't had much motivation to get to it lately. But we'll see.

I'm down a whopping 0.2 lbs this morning (from last week). It's really disappointing to work really hard at it and then just be down a few ounces - if that. Although at my current weight, I can't really expect to lose more than 1/2 a lb a week. Unlike when I weighed over 300 lbs, there's only so many calories I can cut. I really miss those days when I'd be down 5 lbs - or even 2 lbs! It's also hard to know how much I've actually lost from week to week since you can't really tell a loss from daily fluctuations - it's easy to "gain" or "lose" a lb or two due to normal water fluctuations (or "bowel content"). Ugh. Well, overall I'm down six lbs - in 10 weeks. So I guess I'm actually slightly ahead of the game, if you consider I should be averaging about 1/2 lb a week loss. I'll take it. And I know eventually this weight is going to come off, it's just going to take awhile - just like the last 20 lbs did during my post-surgery months. They were a BEAR to get off...

QOTD: I do. I've lived here for 35 years and I've had five (?) different jobs and have been involved in several civic and social organizations. Although this city is big enough (c. 275K population) that I can feel anonymous at times, too. Sometimes I'll run into someone I know at the grocery store (or whatever), and other times I don't. I kind of like this being in the middle. I've lived in small towns before and I really didn't like having everyone knowing my business.

B: plain skyr with cranberry/cherry compote, coffee with half & half

MS: protein shake

L: might make protein oatmeal (I know this is more of a breakfast food, but I don't have time to make it before I leave for the pool)

AS: pumpkin yogurt or a protein muffin

D: I'm thinking vegan meatballs with marinara sauce and a couple tablespoons of parmesan (I originally added 2 oz of spaghetti to MFP, but then I deleted it - too many calories. Will make them for DH, though. I'm OK with just the meatballs and marina sauce)

oh I'll take it. I know that realistically, I can't really lose any faster than that and still be healthy. It's not like when I weighed over 300 lbs. My PCP said before I started this (10 weeks ago) that that's about what she would expect from someone at my weight - about 1/2 lb a week loss. It only takes about 1600 calories to maintain my weight, so there's only so much you can cut from that and still be healthy. When I weighed 300+ lbs (and probably ate 3000+ calories a day), it's pretty easy to find 1000 - or even 1500 - calories to cut. But at a 1600-calorie maintenance level? Nope. That would put me at 600 - or 100 - calories a day. Not happening. I'm currently eating about 1300-1400 kcal a day on this "diet" - so that's about 200-300 calories a day less than my maintenance level. So that calculates out to a 1400-2100 calorie deficit a week. So yea - about 1/2 lb. But yea, it was great stepping on the scale those first few weeks after surgery and seeing those 2-5 lb drops! Those days are long gone, though...

It is always harder the closer you get to goal but you're doing great! I been fighting to lose the last 20 lbs forever and still struggling with it. I am hoping getting back to my basics will help. I had a bariatric checkup this fall and the PA said I was fine at my current weight at my age and that I didn't need to lose anymore and all my numbers were excellent. I just have this number in my head that I want to reach and feel it is obtainable if I focus and stop getting side tracked.

same here. My PCP and the PA at my bariatric clinic have both told me I'm fine and to quit obsessing about it. When I was finished with my original post-surgery weight loss, I was well within my normal BMI range - but I've gradually put on weight since then and have been running 10-15 lbs overweight the last couple of years. I seem to have this mental thing that I have to weigh under 154 lbs (the top end of my normal BMI scale). But that's exactly what it is - a mental issue. My PCP actually prefers her older adult patients (ah...that would be me) to be in the 23-27 BMI range (which I am), because that's supposed to be the healthiest range for older adults, according to research. I'd be much happier if I was in the bottom half of her preferred range, though (23-25 BMI)! (because then I'd be within the normal BMI range for not-so-old people, too!)
