I knew about your sister, but it's still hard to read. Take good care of yourself.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister. I've shared this on the board before but I'm an alcoholic. In the past, I put my family in that same situation of watching me destroy myself without being able to help. It's a horrible way to live when you're addicted to any substance or when you're drowning in open addiction to anything. I can only speak from personal experience. Addiction didn't run in my family previously but unhealthy relationships with food sure did.

Thanks Matt. She definitely shattered all her relationships. I'm glad you have a handle on things and hope you can continue to win that struggle.

I'm so sorry about your sister. Addiction is one heck of a monster, and it most certainly can take over lives. Hugs to you, and congratulations that you were still able to make the decision for your health - no small feat.

Mornin' All!

nothing on the agenda except for a Mah Jongg game this afternoon, so I'll need to do something so the day is at least somewhat productive. Maybe I'll go to the library and scan my mother's Health Care Power of Attorney and email it to my siblings - and print off an application for her (my mother) to be put on the waiting list for an assisted living place that she liked. And I could get going on a book for an upcoming book discussion group meeting..

haven't heard from the profs I sent "permission to audit" forms to yet, but they have until the day before classes begin to get back to me. My hopes always dwindle if I don't hear anything for a few days, though. They may be waiting to see if people drop the class first, though, before letting others in - not sure. But I'm thinking I should submit a couple more forms as backups in case I don't get permission for my top choices, though. I don't necessarily have to enroll in them if I do get permission, so I'm not really out anything -

QOTD: about 10 years before I actually had it. I even went to a couple intro sessions back then to get more information and meet some surgeons. However, my insurance (an HMO) didn't cover WLS at the time, and the only insurance option that I could have taken that DID cover it had premiums that were triple the cost of the HMO (it was a BCBS-type of plan). So I figured I'd wait until I was 65 since Medicare covers it. But I kept getting fatter and fatter - and it finally dawned on me that I might not even live to be 65 if I kept on this path - so I switched to the expensive insurance and had it done (stayed on the expensive one for about two years in case there were any complications - then switched back to the HMO). Of course, two years ago, the HMO started to cover WLS. Oh well - at least I got my surgery five years before that - otherwise it would have just been five more years of misery (and likely even more weight gain!)

B: so far just coffee with half & half. I might make some protein oatmeal later (at around 10:00 or 11:00) so I can push back lunch (I do better this way, since afternoon is my hardest time. Having a later lunch helps)

L: chickpea/miso spread on 35-calories bread

AS: protein shake, and maybe a protein muffin (at different times...)

D: coleslaw with light Asian dressing - not sure what else, but some kind of protein

have a great day, everyone!

Good morning all and happy Tuesday,

I have another long day planned with more things to do today than time available. Just wanted to drop in quick.

QOTD - I first considered getting WLS after I had to get a cane a few years ago. I started the process when I was starting to experience increased difficulty with normal daily activities and my mobility continued to decrease.

B: Skipped at the current moment. I grabbed a tangerine for the road.

L: PP shake.

D: ? Maybe grilled chicken and broccoli.

Hello QJB and Menu Friends,

Thats great news on the cookie front. Making a profit already is so awesome! I am in the office today. One meeting then a bunch of paperwork per usual. Otherwise, not much to report so this will be short and sweet.

QOTD: About 2 years before I had surgery. I always thought I could lose the weight without WLS. I was quite resistant. DH use to say that he felt like WLS was his only option, yet he has never pulled the trigger. I had a co-worker who had the sleeve and did really awesome with it, losing 100+ pounds (she has since moved, I see on Facebook that she has kept all her weight off). Shortly after I went for an evaluation, went through the work-up, was approved, then COVID hit (first pandemic). Then once surgeries were back on, I thought I should just do it (lose weight) myself. Therefore, I didn't go back in. However, over the next 6 months I continued to gain weight and generally felt terrible. I decided to go back in, but it did require a complete workup again due to the time lapse. So glad I did. It helped not just change me physically, but also helped with the mental aspect required. Best decision ever.

Accountability: Excellent

Same ole menu options!

G'morning all!

LOL, that meme is too funny. So happy for you QJB, and your side business. When you are hood at something people find you, no matter what.

This round of storm and rains is doing a number around here. Last storm the damage was more to the low lands because of flooding. This time around the amount of rain is just unsustainable. We keep losing power, the rivers are over flowing and the wind is too strong for some of the old trees. I had a pork shoulder in the crockpot last night, with the idea of cooking all night long, but we lost power around 2:00 am. As soon as we can turn in the generator I'll turn the crockpot back on.

Yesterday my jury duty lasted a total of 10 minutes. I just wished they would have cancelled the whole thing before all of us had to leave home. The court house is right next to one of the rivers that the county kept announcing in danger of over flowing. The jury assembly room had a perfect view of the river and its constant rise. We were in there less than 10 minutes when they decided to cancel everything. But that meant I had wasted 45 minutes driving there (on a regular day that would have been a 20 minutes drive) and another 45-60 minutes of drive in torrential rain and the danger of trees coming down. Oh well, they said we did our civic duty and they would not bother us for a couple of years.

QOTD: about 6 months before I did it. My nutritionist recommended it after I failed at yet another diet. She had even put me on a couple of pills but somehow they never worked for me.

My meals yesterday (I actually missed my boring every day menu ):

  • Coffee
  • TJ kebabs + Fage yogurt
  • Jello, hot cocoa, quest chips
  • Jimmy Dean turkey sausages & scrambled eggs
  • E: nope

Happy taco Tue!
