I never made sweet potatoes (and never canned ones!) with marshmallows, either. My casserole has half & half, butter, crystallized ginger, brown sugar, and a streusel topping with toasted pecans in it. I don't even want to know the calories in that, but we just have it once a year, so I don't worry about it too much!

When I was younger my mom started a tradition of changing the dinner menu for Christmas. Usually a ethnic theme (Italian, French, etc).

we've been making lasagna for Christmas for YEARS! I had an office mate about 20 years ago who said that's what her family always had for Christmas, and I thought that was a great idea. Everyone likes it, it feeds an army, and you can make it a day ahead of time (it's actually even better that way!) so you're not spending the whole holiday cooking. Ta da! I've found out since then that A LOT of people make lasagna for Christmas. Not sure why it took me so many years to find that out - I guess I'd never asked people before then what they typically had for Christmas dinner!

P.S. for a couple years after my WLS, I made a second, smaller one with zucchini slices instead of noodles - for me, of course! (and it freezes well, too...).

Oh hey, who knew!? Lasagna is pretty tasty, so that does make sense. And glad to hear about the zucchini one! I've seen a couple recipes for those but haven't tried one, yet. Thanks for sharing!

Someone always makes a pan of Million Dollar Fudge for holiday meals. My mom made it with semi-sweet chocolate chips, dark baking chocolate, and sweet German chocolate. She also added walnuts which I hated when I was growing up. I remember picking the nuts out of mine before eating it.

I'm with you! Walnuts (or any nuts) do not belong in chocolate!

I am going to have to disagree on the nuts!

Me too...I make fudge every year(the best fudge I might add!) and I wish I could put nuts in it. My SIL is allergic to pecans and my mom loathes walnuts. I love nuts! I have also made killer brittles...the best was the pecan!
