You will probably go through this cycle: a) lose weight b) liver enzymes elevate, c) PCP freaks out and refers you to the liver specialist, d) liver specialist says nothing is wrong but continues seeing you anyway. My enzymes are back to normal today. But I still have a follow up appointment next year.

If you look up elevated liver enzymes on OH, there are hundreds of posts. More or less they all say the same thing.

I also had elevated liver enzymes during the more rapid weight loss period, which fortunately my team just monitored before pulling the trigger with a referral to a hepatologist. Luckily, the enzymes were normalized at the next draw.

Jim-I always appreciate your comments. Misspelled Pop-Tarts. DD uses Pop Tarts as a pre-workout simple carb fix. They always smell so good but I have not yet caved. You can buy protein "Pop-Tarts" on the bariatric pal website. I did try those once, they were good.

mine were high the first year after surgery (and yep - my PCP flipped out), but when I went back again at some point and was re-tested, they were back to normal. I read it's pretty common during the rapid weight loss stage - quick weight loss is hard on livers. I haven't had mine tested since, though, so I don't know if they've continued to cycle. From what I've read, I think it's usually the year or so that they're high.

Happens to me every time I lose weight. I don't worry about it anymore. They always go back down.

You are better at divorcing these extra doctors than I am.

Thanks for sharing! My enzymes were slightly elevated pre op...they were out of range this last round but my clinic didn't seem concerned.

I'll have to take a look on articles. Outside of keto acidosis, I don't remember seeing much on it offhand. And wouldn't be surprised about my PCP. They don't seem too knowledgeable about bariatric patients...and that's my experience less than three months out!

Just wrap the spare in Saran Wrap and throw it in your makeup bag.
