Morning Everyone! I am not sure if I will be the one to start too often right now - things are still a little wild and crazy at work. Short version of the story is that we are without a Superintendent right now, so the rest of us who are in leadership positions are doing a lot of extra work to keep things afloat. All good - just a lot of work.

But I am posting today because I am staying home sick to work from here. My face is actually swollen on one side from the sinus pressure, so... yuck.

QOTD: Did you watch the Oscars last night? I was already feeling yucky so I was asleep for all of it, but I saw the highlights this morning. Wild stuff with the fist fight, yikes! Also, I haven't seen CODA yet, but it was filmed here in MA so it's on my list!

Food has been up and down over the last few weeks. I am down 2lbs from my freak out when I finally got on the scale, but it feels like every ounce is a battle for no reason. I have restricted calories a lot but it's being stubborn. I am afraid I will need to do things VERY different and I don't feel like I have the capacity to change up everything in my life right now.

Today's plan:

  • 2 mugs of protein coffee
  • Balanced Break nuts & cheese
  • Greek yogurt
  • Burger with cheese (no bun)

Happy Monday QJB! Happy to see you here but sorry you are sick. I am on my third round of antibiotics so definitely recommend talking to your gp sooner rather than later!

qotd - yes, we had our regular party and we're always a bit behind because we spend a lot of time on the red carpet....when my phone started blowing up, I told the other ladies "stay off your phones because something appears to have happened". A lot of really bad fashion choices too. I was just happy that Power of the Dog and Don't Look up didn't win much because I hated them both to the point of not being able to finish them.

I slogged all the way through Power of the Dog mostly because I love Benedict Cumberbatch, but I hated the movie. I also like Jane Campion but this was a waste of more than 2 hours of my life. I haven't seen Don't Look Up so I won't waste my time on it.

I didn'****ch the Oscars but I did look at pictures of the dresses (I think they were posted on cnn.com). Some were fine, but several were...interesting (in not a good way). Especially that red dress with the woman's boobs falling out of it. Who on earth would go anywhere looking like that?). There were other really awful ones, too - but that one was the worst.

The last 15 minutes of Don't Look Up was the best part of the whole movie. Sad, but the best. It shows basically how the government controls everything you see, hear, and do.

Good morning. So sorry about that sinus. When mine gets that bad they have given me antibiotics and steroids. I wish you could catch a break with work. There are so many people who drift through their work life. I think of them as having retired in place. Then there are a few people like you who are always stepping up to the plate and running the extra mile.

A month ago, I was so tired and stressed out, I could not keep my eyes open after work. Yesterday I sent my manager an email saying that I have too much time on my hands and asked for some additional assignment. For me the solution was getting some associates up to speed so they could take over some of the work. When I get told that they really would like me to work seven days because things fall apart when I am off, I tell them that is a crazy way to operate, and I might just get hit by a truck.

Everyone needs to have other people who can take over when they don't feel well. I now have something to keep me busy when others are able to do my main functions. I did take 1/2 hour lunch break yesterday and saw that they got lazy and behind. The ones who are capable of doing the work will still hope that I do it. I have done it so long that it is easy for me, and they have to research and put their brain to work. But they need that experience to get better.

I mostly research tax law and how to apply it to different situations. There are literally millions of tax laws and they are constantly being modified by Congress. Just when you think you have it all straight a new tax ruling will change things. I have to give people accurate tax advice and make sure that others on my team do the same. I normally only work from January until May, so know I will have a long break coming up if I decide to take it.

QJB, you plan to eat so little. It is amazing how efficient our bodies get at maintaining weight on such small amounts of food and I do think that is the body's revenge on us for making it lose that weight right after surgery. I think back to the meals that I used to eat presurgery and they were full plates of food with bread or rolls on the side and often second helpings. I can't do that now and have to struggle and be very careful to avoid regain or lose small amounts of weight very slowly.

I've noticed on various forums that some surgeons are now recommending a higher calorie intake with their new patients, evidently thinking that it'll be less likely to mess up their metabolism rates later. I'll be curious to see if that "works". By higher, I mean 1200 calories for women, 1600 for men, soon after surgery. I think most of us were eating half that for almost the whole first year! (and I know a handful of you still eat that even years out!).
