G'morning all!

Sending warm and cozy thoughts to all of you on the path of Nor'easter. Our weekend weather will be in the high 60s...as Lisa said that's why we pay CA taxes. I had plans with a few gf for a lunch outdoors on Sat, but one has caught the Covid. She is OK but we rescheduled the whole thing for March. On Sun we have a big screen viewing of Encanto, al fresco. Everybody will bring Colombian food; I volunteered for Colombian cookies. It just shows that we miss our kids that even as empty nesters we still watch the Disney movies, and throw theme parties as if the kids were still around. I predict a lot of karaoke style singing of "we don't talk about Bruno"...can't get that song out of my head. Do you guys think it's cultural appropriation if I wore a skirt that looks like Mirabel's skirt? I have 2-3 of these skirts that I bought a couple of years ago because they looked like 60s poodle style. They have flowers on them and I usually wear them during summer with sandals.

QOTD: I use an app for my shopping list. If I'm in the store last minute (without having checked what I had at home) I go by recipes I plan to make and buy their items. I would say I'm 80% list and 20% impulse buy.

My meals yesterday:

• B: protein coffee
• L: protein puff + chomp turkey stick (very bland)
• S: Fage yogurt + sf syrup
• D: 2 hbd eggs + tuna pouch
• E: 30 minutes cardio + 60 minutes weight training

I don't think it's cultural appropriation, it's a great way to honor the heart and culture you are celebrating.

I really don't understand the cultural appropriation thing we have in the US. I believe that your dresses are a homage to that culture. You should definitely wear one. I can see if a culture would be offended if a person wore something in mockery or as a joke.

I felt the same way until DD's bf at the time explained it to me. DD in college dated an Indian (from India). I LOVE sari and all their vibrant colors. So I was gushing to him about wanting a sari. He said it's not OK to wear a sari as a costume, whether you love and appreciate the culture. If you are wearing a sari to a theme party, planned by white people, then that becomes a costume party no matter what you say and that is cultural appropriation. You are making a mockery of it because you wouldn't wear it in your every day life. Now if the party was thrown by an Indian host asking everybody to wear a sari that's another story.
In my case, the party is thrown by white non-Colombian people. The theme is only food related and not clothes. I've had these skirts for 2-3 years and they are not "Colombian" traditional but kinda look like it...and I do use them during summer. So I guess I could wear it, but I was just asking to see if I'm thinking this straight.

I love that explanation! It makes me think and I will strive to do better. It's a work in progress but as long as we do better when we know better, it's progress!

Definitely not cultural appropriation...at least in my opinion. We all wear all sorts of styles and such from different cultures. My favorite shirt style are kimono style.
