I?ll look ... honestly haven?t had this issue in YEARS Thank God because it feels really serious... until you get a handle on it .

carbonyl iron is 100% elemental iron and a lot of us take that. That and heme iron tend to work well for us and have fewer side effects (like G/I distress) than the iron salts (like ferrous sulfate). Elemental iron is actually the only part of iron that IS absorbed by us (or by anyone, for that matter)

Ok thanks...my dr recommended I take procare bariatric multivitamin with iron, which is ferrous fumurate. However I will look at the heme iron now.

some people can tolerate the various iron salts (I think they all start with "ferrous" (although that just means "iron"), but some get G/I issues from them. So that's why a lot of us go with heme or carbonyl. There are some other versions that typically don't cause G/I issues, either - I just can't think of the names at the moment. Heme iron (made from animal products) is supposedly the highest quality iron, but it can be pricey. But it's worth it if you have anemia issues, though.

I use proferrin, I get it from amazon. It was recommended by several of the vets here.

Wow I never realized there were so many forms of ingestible iron nor that different people's bodies absorb them differently!

My body reacts very well to iron salts apparently- anything beginning with ferrous sulfate works great 4 me .

Elemental iron on the other hand just gives me constipation.
