What's on your Monday Menu RNY'ers?
Mornin' All!
one of my cats (my 19-year-old) seems to have started declining over the weekend. DH wanted to take her to the emergency vet clinic on Saturday night to have her euthanized, but I wanted to wait 'til the morning since sometimes they ebb & flow for a couple of weeks - as in, have good days and bad days. I'm glad we waited because she seemed much better yesterday. She also seems OK this morning. Main issue is weakness and weight loss - I gasped when DH weighed her and she was down a whole pound since three weeks ago. She's still eating and drinking and using the litterbox and getting on and off the bed (using pet stairs), though. Walking isn't the greatest because of the weakness...but she gets around. I have a call into our regular vet - I hope they can get us in today so they can assess where she's at and how much time we might have.
this morning I will be shadowing a water fitness instructor at my gym. I will be doing the routine - on land - on the opposite side of the pool from her. I want to make sure my joints can handle this before I start my training and certification. I can do the routines no problem in the pool, but doing them on land is a different story. So we'll see...
QOTD: as long as I stay in the 1500-1700 calorie range, my weight stays put. I can go over 1700 occasionally, but if I do it too many times in a week, my weight starts heading up.
3 years 4 months out:
B: homemade Greek yogurt, 1/2 mango
MS: coffee with half & half, protein shake
L: cottage cheese and strawberries
AS: pumpkin yogurt
D: turkey chili
ex: an hour of aqua aerobics on dry land
she's been eating really well the last couple of days, so I think she must be feeling semi-OK. I have a vet appt this afternoon at 3:00, so we'll see what she says. Sometimes they can tell when the end is soon (low body temp, for one....) or when they might ebb and flow for a few days - even a week or two. I hope the latter so we have a few more days with her. I always try to do this before things get bad, though. The first couple of cats we had I think we waited too long, and I still feel guilty about that years later. With the last two we did it when the down swing first started. It may have been a couple days too early, but I've never regretted those. Much better being a day or two too early than a day or two too late. I would never want them to suffer just because I couldn't let go...
Sorry about the kitty. Hope she bounces back. It's so hard to make those decisions.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat, but am glad she rallied a bit today. These decisions are the worst, and personally despite the vet's assurances, I have almost never known for sure whether my choice was the right one for my sweet animals, or not. You have my sympathy.
