Theory about melted candle look and regain - opinions
You do NOT have to worry about intentionally gaining weight. It will happen when you don't want it to, and then you'll be fighting to take it back off.

A lot of posters hate me for saying this - but I never had " melted candle " or " hanging skin" and I wasn't that young . I believe there's TONS of stuff we can do avoid that but it takes everyday attention, purchasing and using the right ( inexpensive though ) products , jumping in a sauna pool or getting on the beAch whenever we have a chance .
In the end ... do you want to have a great body or save face?
Do you mean one's face looks like a "melted candle?" I have not experienced that and am currently at a low low normal BMI. However, my stomach and behind could be described that way, or like a Shar-Pei. LOL No one sees my excess skin so it is not a topic of conversation with anyone, thankfully. I would love to have plastic surgery but need to save up for it first and I want do do it when I've been at a sustainable weight for at least a year. I am not planning on deliberately gaining weight to raise my BMI as so many get into trouble with that; they develop bad eating habits and over correct.
Yes, I was more than anything talking about face (though body as well to a degree but that gets complicated with all the extra skin most have). I had heard often enough of people hearing comments from friends and family about a sickly or gaunt look. I don't know if that is just people getting used to the new thinner person they see, or maybe there is a gaunt look for a while but then the fat redistributes. I'm not sure, but I am sure we're all different and we each have to decide what is best for us when the time comes. :)

I've gained 10 lbs since I hit bottom a little over a year ago. However, several friends plus my PCP and bariatric surgeon like me better at my current weight - I had gotten too gaunt for awhile and was pretty low on body fat. Although I'm still within a normal BMI range, so...
I wasn't happy with the gain and wanted to be back down where i was, but I've since come to terms with it. And I've been able to maintain this current weight for several months now without too much trouble. I think it might be a constant struggle to lose that 10 lbs again and maintain at that level. I could do it, I think, but it would be a challenge.
Like someone else said, I think my gain was partially metabolic and partially not being so militant about my diet. Don't get me wrong - I monitor and track everything that goes into my mouth, but I'll occasionally allow myself things now that I never would have while I was in the welght loss phase.
I don't think I look sick at all, I actually look healthy. I've lost 151 lbs and have stayed there since October of last year + - 5 or 6 lbs. The melted candle look comes from my excess skin. I really don't care about any part of my body except my face...I have a lot of excess on my face and neck. It really bothers me. If I tilt my head a tiny bit, the skin literally hangs. I met my favorite singer last weekend and had my picture made with him and to look at it all I see is skin, skin and more skin . Ive seen people lose more weight than me and their face doesn't look like mine but we are all different. My stomach looks better than others I've seen who lost about the same amount of weight as me. I wish I could trade the two!
