Our pouches has their own personalities. Go figure. But salmons are ...."fishy" in their own way.

Fyi: I like salmon, but it needs to be fresh or freshly smoked (smoked when still fresh).

I had some salmon that I could not even swallow. The taste and smell was such thst my body would not allow me to. It is one bite that determines if I can eat it or not. And when I encounter a "bad salmon" it may take me up to a year to be able to try it again. For real.

I had "bad canned salmon" app 6 months ago. Now when I am in a restaurant, and look at the menu, the idea of salmon dish brings metallic like taste to my mouth. That is my body saying "Nope".

Since I had RNY - my body gets very sensitive to some foods. I can look at it or smell it to know that I should not eat it. (Except chocolate, I can eat chocolate almost any day)

My no no foods are Salmon and for the most part chicken breast. I can tolerate it once in a while. I know as soon as I put it in my mouth if it's yes or no. I can tolerate boar's head low sodium chicken breast sometimes too. If I cook or smoke a whole chicken it's more tolerable, maybe because more of the juices stay in the breast.

ETA:I can eat cold smoked salmon all day long. Man, it's strange the way our bodies reject certain things after surgery.

Thank you Hala!

Being a newbie and just introducing whole foods to my new pouch I am learning a lot! I am one of those types that likes to understand the 'why' (explain it to me) of things.

I value the experience and knowledge of those who have walked this walk before me and are successful.

After the steak episode I am being very cautious and slow. It was actually a very good lesson this tool of mine taught me and I really appreciate getting a better understanding of the 'why'.

Thank you!

I had a small piece of filet mignon at 10 weeks and considered it a major accomplishment.

The irony in this whole thing is that meat is what we need the most in terms of protein to calorie ratio and it's the hardest thing for us to actually swallow and digest. Fish (especially with white flesh) i think is the easiest but many just don't like fish. Quality is very important in fish. Tilapia to me tastes like mud pies and I really like fish

For the record I do not recommend purging.

I call my pouch Mr. Grumblebutt. He loves to talks up a storm after eating something it doesn't mind, but by golly if I add egg yokes he brings the house down. And I don't mean that in a good way. I love eggs.. I also love cheese. Both of these things put Mr. Grumblebutt into melt down. Funny thing is I can eat egg whites, and some cheeses like american (not my favorite) I can eat with no problems. But change that cheese to something like colby jack, cheddar, or even blue cheese and he lets me know in no uncertain terms just how terrible of an idea that was.

It really is weird just how different our ways of eating/tollerating works out after having RNY, even so much as to changing how things taste to me. Hope your pouch feels better soon and I double hope you don't get more foamies..

So interesting how individual it is. I'm six months out and consistently have issues with pork chops. I have a sauce, I take small bites, I chew and chew and chew and chew and I'm still miserable after eating one ounce. Happened at three months and happened again two weeks ago (that's how long I waited). That scared me enough that I haven't tried steak. Chicken, turkey, salmon, seafood, fish, ground meat of any kind, all that is fine. Eggs don't bother me and cheese is my go-to. Overall I feel lucky to be able to have so much variety, and I may not every try pork chops again!
