Drinking and Mealtime - a Question
on 4/2/18 11:34 pm
I know that we shouldn't drink for at least 30 minutes after eating, and that this practice helps us to feel full and satisfied with our intake. Is there a nutritional benefit as well to not drinking with or just after meals? Or is this purely a matter of extending satiation?
Drinking with meals will cause your food to be washed out of the pouch quickly as opposed it leaving to slowly. Avoiding drinking for at least 30 minutes is very important to not only keep us feeling satisfied longer, but to help control portions. Flush 4 ounces of dense protein out of the pouch-one can eat more than they really need, and start gaining weight.
Drinking with meals is a sure fire way to start gaining weight.

Thanks Audrey. I do understand that and am careful to separate my eating from drinking. I just wondered if there was also any absorption benefit in terms of nutrients, but I guess not, as virtually all absorption occurs in the intestines rather than the stomach.
I should never post before my caffeine intake is complete. I totally missed that part of the question. D'oh.
No, there's no benefit-nutritional or otherwise.

There is no nutritional difference, though every once in a while some nitwit declares you can eat more calories if you drink while eating, since food gets washed out and isn't absorbed as much. Utter nonsense.
It's all about satiety.

It may be my imagination, but I think that it may allow a bit more digestion to happen early rather than late (making the food less likely to cause intestinal distress). Again, may be just in my head...
