Pre surgery check list
I was going to say...chapstick! Lol. But everyone covered that already. I was EXTREMELY thirsty and that helped some. The day of surgery I slept off and on most of the day. Walked to the cafeteria with my husband and walked around the floor a bit but other than that I slept.
PJ bottoms for when you're walking around too!
They would only let me have 10ml of water every 15 mins and I'd just let it sit in my mouth bc I was so thirsty!

Glad it worked out for you Nancy!
Don't wear your jewelry to the hospital at all, leave it all home. Bring something comfortable that doesn't constrict your waist to wear home. Bring your cellphone and tablet if you wish, along with charging cords. Don't bother bringing a robe, as it won't be compatible with your IV tubing. Instead, just wear a second hospital gown over your first one, but have the top gown on so it opens in front. That way you'll be all covered, and the snap sleeve closures will work with your IV. Best of luck to you!
Sorry to disagree about the tablet. If you are feeling well, you might use it, but if not, it is at risk for being stolen. Just be careful. I took a book of crosswords and word searches to entertain myself. No one was going to steal that.

Yes, pros and cons on having a tablet. I did use mine and was glad to have it, but it could "disappear". I brought and used a regular size pillow btw. But also no jewelry or valuables (other than tablet and phone). Taking off my wedding rings was a chore! I wore the two hospital gowns while in the hospital and super soft stretchy pants and a sweatshirt to go to the hospital and wear home (same clothes but brought a change of undies). My husband held onto my phone and tablet while I had surgery. Once I was in the room and he brought them, they logged it as a possession (that's what they told us to do when I was checking in).

I am going to weigh in on the electronic devices for another reason, try to rest instead of checking up on your email. This surgery is amazing and if all goes well the pain level is not over the top but your body has just had a major trauma and you should walk, rest, sip, repeat and ignore everything else.

I know the newbies check the trackers and the signatures so although I kind of lost track of how the rest of the weight came off, you should know that it was not fast and furious but it was slow and steady!
current BMI 24.7 that, my friends, is NORMAL!!! Strong is the new pretty!
Thank you all so much I really appreciate it. I think I will leave my tablet at home and only have my cell phone for communication and maybe I'll login to talk to you guys.
I have a feeling that I won't really want to do very much reading or watching a movie or anything. The only way I would is if I was there for a long time. I'm thinking that I will be in the hospital overnight and maybe one more day I'm not really sure again thank you everyone.

Take some good slippers/houseshoes so you aren't walking the halls in those gripper socks which are forever coming off. Just take a change of clothes--leave the electronics at home. The hospital has a phone by your bed if you need to call someone. You need to be concentrating on healing and walking. The more you walk, the faster the pain will fade away. The phone would be tempting to lie in bed and be on Facebook. Don't. Walk, walk, walk. I was discharged the morning after my surgery, so don't plan to be in long unless you have a complication. Take your pain meds and other meds on schedule. Don't be tempted to skip them in the first 24 hours. Make friends with Mr. Fleet for when you are at home (Fleet suppositories, etc.) and constipation sets in. It can because of the reduction in liquids, etc. Get a sports bottle or a shaker bottle with the ounce markings on it so you know how many ounces for sure you are getting in. For awhile, the water bottle is going to go everywhere with you. I'm far enough out (10 years) that I don't have to be as obsessive about it, but I do still get m 64 ounces in a day.
