Energy
on 10/29/17 7:53 am
i am two weeks post op and I am struggling with my energy levels. I have been trying to walk and I can only get 1 lap around the block. I have tried to get all my protein in but cannot drink protein shakes or stand the texture of protein powder. Is this normal to feel this weak?
I was the same way. I ended up mixing in my protein in a butternut squash soup. I also had some energy problems but if you are not getting the required the 60g+ of protein in this is likely a major contributor. The protein is so important for healing. If you are not getting this your body is going to focus all of the energy on healing and no energy is going to be available for everyday tasks.
How is your water intake going?

I think that it's normal. It took me more than a month to start feeling like I had more energy. Walk anyway, just more often. It will help.

Thank you everyone for your encouraging replies. I'm not one to lay around so this was concerning me. I need to be more patient I guess.
It's normal to feel tired this soon after surgery.
Can you try different brands of protein drinks until you find one you can stand? It's so important to get your protein and water in.
If it doesn't make you actually sick, just force yourself to sip it.
Are you allowed Greek yogurt yet? It's high in protein.
Good luck.

Thank you for your advice, this week I am allowed Greek yogurt and cheese sticks so I think that will help with the Protane.
You're doing great! I did one lap around the block too, but i would then set a timer on my stove for one hour and go do another lap around the block. Back at the office (I returned to work early) I set my watch timer for hour reminders and I would walk around our building every hour, then around the city block and so on. It will come back and frequent if short walks will help you!
