Getting "thinner" in the wrong places and a question about gluten.
For me - some carbs would cause RH even if I have them with proteins and fats. Regardless of how much proteins or fat I got. The RH would depend on the qty and type of carbs I ate. I.e. potatoes - more than 1/2 TBS - would cause RH in me. Or rice. Or bread - more than 1-2 bites, by and I need to watch my BS app an hour later.
But I can have some quinoa and my BS would be fine. But I still would get too much gas.

not only gluten can be a problem.
Grains and other plant stuff material have difficult to digest lectins. Read on that.
I eliminated most lectins from my diet and my gut is much more happy. Some i have no problem with like peanuts - others- I have to cook to be really soft (like green beans ) to make them more digestable to me.
I don't tested positive for gluten allergies, but eliminating grains makes a huge impact on my gut health. I do sometimes chose better option gluten free. (crackers - NutThins are amazing) but not really due to gluten, but sometimes gluten free may be better.
"Lectins are a type of protein that can bind to cell membranes. They are sugar-binding and become the "glyco" portion of glycoconjugates on the membranes. Lectins offer a way for molecules to stick together without getting the immune system involved, which can influence cell-cell interaction."

Complicated stuff. I actually enjoyed the post surgical diet and the way it made me feel so I am reluctant to stray too far and that obviously is a very good thing long term if I continue to just keep things simple. But I am human and I do sometimes stray, it's just i think I happened to stray a bit too far and for a bit too long and the results were not good. Which in itself is good if it works to put me back on track.
I try to limit fruit to berries and even that's in small amounts. I'm familiar with Blue Diamond but I don't think I've had those crackers. I'll keep my eyes open for them. Thanks!
I do get severe reaction to most carbs - but I complete get "I am a human". Been there- done that, and chances are - will do it again. For sure. I get the "I don't give a f#&$" moment and eat what I want.. them pay the price.
In my signature the line says "I can eat and do anything I need want as long as I am willing to suffer the consequences" and I do suffer. And some around me may too... specially the gas.

I don't always get it and I believe it's because I'm eating protein with the carbs or protein before the carbs. My theory is that the protein slows the absorption of the sugars to a degree that there isn't that insulin spike. Obviously I realize my theories on sugar absorption and $2.75 will earn me exactly 1 slice of pizza. (which I would give to my wife)
May i ask what are your typical RH symptoms?
Carbs spike blood sugar and insulin. Blood sugar goes way up, then crashes.
Protein doesn't spike blood sugar, but it does increase insulin, and too much can crash blood sugar.
Fats don't increase blood sugar or insulin.

My RH symptoms varies. My mild symptoms is "funny vision" - colors look off. That is when my BS goes to 60 or below, before it drops to below 45- 48. In 9 years - I started to recognize the mild symptoms "feeling off" the below 50 - is another story... I start getting anxious, and my vision is really off... Almost tunneling.. with some area black..
The below 40 or 30 - my body goes into a panic mode - very fast heart beat rare, sweating - my body gets drenched in sweat - literally dripping off of me - my vision is really off, I have problem breathing, my mouth gets dry and I have aversion to food. When it drops to low 30 - or below - I have a problem swallowing... That's why glucose tablets for me are a must. Fix the super low BS before I pass out - then top with proteins+fat+ complex carbs.
The super low RH leaves my very tired after. First very hot - followed by shaking from getting cold. Freezing.
In 9 years - I have way too many of anything in between. By now - I often deal with it before it drops below 50... But at times I just ignored the early symptoms.

Yikes that vision issue sounds scary.
Honestly at first what I thought I was feeling was dumping. It was a somewhat mild nausea and a strong need to just lie down. Lasted up to an hour. But that's only happened a handful of times. More recently I've just been nodding off in the middle of the day and I'm not even 100% sure that's a blood sugar thing. The thing is I have eaten carbs/sugar and not had the reaction.
I think I'm just going to get a glucose monitor and see what's going on with my levels. Any suggestions?
The glucose meter is a must. Get a script. Any small one will do. A lot of time you get free meter, the strips - is where they really make the money.
The tired feeling I often get with carb coma... or too many lean proteins with no enough fat. My worse RH started in year 2-3- 4. now - it happens when my body and hormones are really off or I do something stupid and not correct in time.
the early signs for me - I can recognize so much better... practice makes perfect.
Having way too many very very low BS until I realized what was going on made my body adjust to low BS. I woudl not pass out until my BS was below 20..not sure how much below...
in my first year- if i had RH - it was very rarely, and it was more like "tired, need to lay down" but my body still had some reserves so it never really freaked out. It's as you describe now.
when my body fat is very low - low cholesterol, low triglycerides - the body is out of any reserves, any reserves. So it gets really low really fast...
get BS meter. You may be still reacting to BS in your 60. That for my body is not even beginning to become an issue. My body is used to it as normal.
but normal should be 70-95 or 100, fasting.

Thanks for all your input. Sounds like something I need to get out in front of sooner rather than later. I'm kind of missing the days when the only numbers I needed to worry about was 60 grams protein/64 oz of water. But I'm looking lean in my 32 waist pants !
