Hormones
Hi. I read about our hunger hormones and the rny. Have any of you experienced your hunger coming back after a year? My nutritionist told me this. Thanks.

This is absolutely possible. Ghrelin (the hunger hormone) is created in different places in the body, and it's absolutely possible that the body accommodates for this after surgery.
Not everyone experiences reduced hunger after surgery, nor does it stay away. It's more common in VSG patients, since the stomach is physically removed, but some RNY patients can experience it as well.

Mine is coming back at the 2.5-3 year mark. Sometimes I feel hungry, sometimes stupid and *****y (a sign time to eat) and sometimes I don't notice at all (and then pass out due to low blood sugar).

The hardest battle with hunger, I have found, is knowing WHEN you are truly hungry, or is it stress, boredom, wanting to do something different, wanting to feel taste something in your mouth, frustration or ???

I have been hungry since day 1 (9 years ago). That being said, I have managed to lose and keep off roughly 200 pounds. Even if you do experience hunger, you do not have to use it as an excuse. This surgery is a tool, not "magic".
