My upper GI was this morning and yes, I had a stricture. They dilated it and said they'll want to do it again next week to make sure it stays open. Right now we're seeing how I do with keeping down beef broth and water. So far so good!

Glad you are better. Another procedure next week-- just to make sure?? If you are interested, is it possible to wait until your WLS surgeon is back from vacation to confer with him/her on that one. I listen to a lot of WLS support group members who have never mentioned having to go back for a second procedure--just to make sure--if food/water was passing through okay.

So sorry to hear you had a structure! Glad that you got it figured out though.

I had a similar issue this month. They stretched me out, then again a week later. Then I had to come back in this last Monday for a third time because I was having problems again. Feeling great again.

i would definitely go back for that second procedure, if it shrinks up again (my surgeon says it's common) you'll be back to square one.

ask, it's pretty common to get ulcerations when you have a stricture. Maybe ask your doc if you should be taking any carafate or Pepcid? Its really helped me.

The doc who did the first dilation said it can cause "a tear", but "if that happens I'll just fix that, too." Wellllll okay then? He also gave me a prescription for carafate, I've got to get it filled. It'll go along with the omeprazole I already take.

I have one more week off work, I'd prefer to get this all taken care of now rather than waiting until Dr. Ellner is back from vacation. Dr. Reddy did my pre-op EGDs, so I don't have any reason to distrust him.

Now I just need to re-focus on fluids and protein and soft foods! I'm a bit intimidated but I can't live on IVs forever, right?

That's good news. Strictictures usually take 2 or three treatments to get things opened properly, so that part is normal. It will be nice to get this fixed and be on your way!

Due to scheduling I can't get back for the second procedure until the 7th. I've got my fingers crossed that I'll be fine until then.

And thank goodness for fully paid deductibles, right?

The best gauge is fluids. Food can be tough for many reasons, but if fluids get stuck, that's when you worry. I'm sure the first treatment will help that much.

Just a bump in the road. A few years you'll be living a healthy life and barely remember this.
