Having a rough day
Nothing sounds good. I try eating what is avail. to me and nothing tastes good. I can drink hot liquids without too much trouble, but trying to get in jus****er has been an issue for me. When drinking jus****er or even some powerade zero, I get these little cramps and what feels like tons of air bubbles (this comes from just taking a 1/2 to 1 oz sips. I do the same with a hot liquid and it doesn't do this.
Also I try to drink my protein shakes and the sheer amount of gas build up from them is horrible :( I thought perhaps it was the 1% milk so i changed to cashew milk.. Still had issues, so i switched to soy milk. Still having the same issue where gas just bubbles up non stop.
Getting so tired of soups and sweet stuff its feeling like a chore just to get any type of food into me. I get to start pureed on the 21st but I just feel burned out. It got so bad I ate 1 bite of one of those vienna sausages (chewed until it was paste darn near) and that went down without an issue. But still I'm not to soft foods yet.
I do get cravings for certain foods and I know that is just head hunger. But then I'm hungry for just ANYTHING, and I know that is when I'm actually hungry. I mean.. I'm probably very hungry considering I don't think I have been able to get above 350 cals since my surgery almost 2 weeks ago.
I just don't know what to do. I keep getting told over and over stick to my plan, get in my liquids, get in my protein. But I'm having a really HUGE issue of doing either at this time.
The only good news is I have already gone from 284 on day of surgery to 271. *sigh*

I am new to all of this. My surgery was in November. Have you tried gas x?? The milky protein shakes didn't sit well in my pouch either. One thing that worked for me the unjury brand chicken soup protein. Also, hot decaf tea is my go to for liquids. It is so warm and comforting, even now.
The first few weeks out are hard. You are healing and trying to figure out what works. Getting your fluids and protein in is your job. Its not fun. It will get easier though.
Have you tried something warm? Like broth or Strained soup. Maybe a change in the temperature of what you're consuming would lessen the gas bubbles. Or maybe take gas X? 'I'm probably very hungry'- I disagree. You are or you aren't- there is no midddle ground. Your body has what it needs by burning fat. I can't condone the Vienna sausage- rules are rules.
Now is just a moment in time. It will pass and it will get better.

If you can only do hot liquids, that's fine. Drink a lot of tea. Syntrax makes great protein powders that mix with water. They have tea, fuzzy navel, etc etc. Someone has a chicken soup flavored protein. There are literally a million varieties.
As long as you are getting enough fluid, it doesn't matter what form or flavor it is. I was the posite. Mine had to be ice cold. If it was even room temperature, much less hot, it was horrible.
Keep working til you find something. It gets easier.

I am going to second what Grim said - if hot is where it's at, no problem- hot it is. Drinking plain water isn't a necessity. My plan allowed caffeine but I wouldn't have wanted to drink all caffeine, do if it was me I'd include herbal tea and decaf.
If you are making your protein in the blender that is going to add a lot of go or bubbles. Even shaking creates bubbles. Honestly early out the Premier Protein are great because of their thin consistency, and no foam or bubbles as they are ready to drink. You can also heat the chocolate Premier to make hot chocolate. I like to add SF peppermint syrup and a little extra milk.

Gnawing hunger can often mean acid. So if you are having that feeling and are not on a ppi, you should talk to your doctor. My "hunger" went away when is started Prevacid.

All of this is how I felt at first. It was hard and I thought I it would never get better, but it does. Stick to your plan (no bites of things you shouldn't have) and ignore the head hunger. 350 calories are plenty right now too, totally normal. I had days in those first weeks where 200 felt like a victory.
Stay the course and in a few months, you'll be saying the same thing to other new folks!

The early stages aren't easy, that's for sure; you just have to put your head down and get through them.
It's OK to have hot liquids; are you allowed clear broth yet? Herbal tea? Those are both good ways to get in your liquid.
I found premier protein shakes a life saver; I hated every other shake I tried but could tolerate the premier no problem. Plus it only took 2 small shakes to get in my daily protein needs, which was great. I still have premier protein at 6.5 months out, usually as whitener in my tea or decaf.
I couldn't drink skim milk after surgery; it upset my stomach. I tried almond and soy milks but couldn't get those down either.
I had to have my liquids icy cold or I became nauseated.
Gas is really common after surgery. Try walking a bit more, if you can, to get it out. Gas X can help. Others have asked if you're taking an acid reducer. Hopefully you are. If not, you should call your surgeon.
Hang in there; this will pass. Don't allow yourself any more bites of anything; you can really do damage inside if you eat before you're ready...everything is still raw inside.
Congrats on the weight loss.
