Lower Abdominal Pain
I am almost 6 months post RNY. I have been doing great but all of a sudden today I am having really bad lower abdominal pain. It came on fairly sudden and is pretty intense but comes in waves. So I immediately think constipation but I had a bowel movement this morning. I also have started my period yesterday but usually don't have any cramps. Any ideas? Is there anything that is common at this point other than gall bladder? I don't think gall bladder would be causing me to hurt so low in my abdomen. Thanks in advance for advice.

I had this happen a couple of times at about 9 months post-op. It WAS constipation. I was traveling and probably wasn't drinking as much water as usual and definitely not following my usual bathroom habits. The pain was so intense, the first time it happened I thought I was going to have to go to the hospital ****il I had a good bathroom trip finally and it resolved). I thought I was having an appendix, gallbladder or kidney stone attack (I was looking them up feverishly on my iPad).

I had a regular BM and yet when I went for ct scan due to severe pain they told me I was full of it. I know I can be constipated and have daily "normal" BM.
I usually try to take an extra dose of miralax, if I suspect that. If I don't get runs "working within " 12-20 hours after the extra dose - I know I am/was constipated. I then try to eat very lightly until things clear completely. Sometimes that may take up to 2 days. You may be surprised how much our body can hold.
