Varicose veins
So varicose veins run in my family. And I have a couple of pretty unsightly ones. However, since losing weight, I have more! I have to say that my legs are the part of me I like the least in this weightloss journey, between the saggy skin at my thighs and bulging veins everywhere- they are not a pretty sight. Apparently this is quite common after weightloss- I guess they were always there but now they aren't covered by fat. And with 50-60 lbs to go I'm wondering how bad it will get. I guess I will be looking into vein treatment when I get to goal.
Btw- this is not a complaint! I am so happy with my weight loss and so far even the saggy skin is minimal. I haven't had hairloss either - fingers crossed that I dont! More of an observation. Also here in Ontario, vein treatment isn't covered unless there are other issues. So I hope it's not too expensive.

I have been going through a vein removal for the last 8 months. Yes they looked much worse after weight loss, but reality was they were there all the time. And while they can seem to be cosmetic they can certainly give you problems specially as you get older. So to me it was worth it to have them done.
I got a little bit of insurance coverage but I've had to pay out-of-pocket as well, it hasn't been too bad. I was able to have one vein laser, and while the good part about that is one day and it's done it was a little uncomfortable.
The rest of been getting shots. Honestly they are not painful they put like a temporary cast on your leg afterwards that you took out of off later in the day or the next morning that's the most painful part is just kind of tight on your leg. And the results have been amazing.
And I have really bad veins, and I know they do other methods but the shots worked for me, it takes time but it was really painless.
EDit: if you scroll through my Instagram, I have a before and after on there of my legs.

Thank you! That's what I keep reminding myself of - that they were there all along. Kind of like saggy skin- it's been there but just filled with fat. :) I have seen your pics on Instagram and that's just awesome!

I am in the states and have private insurance so this may not apply to you but a couple years ago I had some vericose/spider vein treatments from a cardiologist (prior to RNY). My insurance paid for it - not all of it but some and it wasn't that expensive. They had to give me some tests to determine the medical cause of the vericose/spider veins so the insurance would cover it so maybe if you had a diagnosis of an underlying medical condition (rather than cosmetic) your insurance would cover it also. The process they used of injecting the veins with something that caused them to collapse and disappear was amazing. I was very pleased with the results and when I get to onederland, I hope to go back for more. Best of luck to you! Roxanne

It isn't that expensive to treat varicose veins. All the shots are is sal****er and osmosis works its magic!! I used to prepare the syringes that the derm I worked for used. We use to wrap the legs tightly with ace bandages after the shots.
Well worth the cost imho.
