Help me decide!
I could have had either as well. I had some gerd, but also a hiatel hernia which was fixed during surgery. I chose VSG because I was not comfortable with surgery involving my intestines. I lost quickly and so far no gerd. I actually was leaning toward RNY for a bit due to my reading on OH, but after a final discussion with my surgeon I ended up deciding on VSG.
In the end you have to educate yourself by researching and asking your surgeon questions, then decide what makes sense to you.

Hey,
First congrats on your first consult....that's an exciting time. I had my first consult a year ago and I felt like I'd never get post surgery but here I am....3 months and 90 lbs down. I ended up having the rny. I am 29 with no health problems....yet lol....and I wanted the biggest bang for my buck....even tho insurance coversed it. I am so glad I did the rny. It is REALLY hard post surgery. There's a lot you deal with that the classes just can't prep u for. But knowing that I will loose the most amount of weight I possibly can is a huge comfort. That and I would never wanna go through surgery again. So if there is even the remote possibility that you might have to have a revision....I would go with rny! Good luck and stay strong!
Have to agree RNY was what my surgeon recommended. For one thing, he said it was because he knew it would last 25 years. It lasts as long as you don't abuse it of course but I got his meaning. I have no problem being righteous about taking vitamins. I would trust your instincts and both are very good options. Many people do marvelous on the sleeve and needed to make that choice for health reasons. Good Luck!
