Revision to RNY due to acid?
Super fascinating. Thank you for all of this information! I really appreciate it. And I will come to you when I have more questions.
In strange news, I was wondering what dietary changes I'd made recently and thought about the calcium chewables (which I think I mentioned already?).
So I stopped taking them yesterday and today my throat hasn't felt that burny way. Very interesting...

Oh! Regarding the patch - I had been using them, but I've got skin sensitivity issues, so I was having to rotate locations every day and still felt like the places I used them itched all the time due to minor rashes. So I recently gave up on them - hence switching to the calcium chewables with the fructose.
My PCP is also annoying about ordering labs, so I feel less inclined to try be a guinea pig for patches. :/

I am glad you asked this question... I remember when Stacy revised, but it was good to read all the info again. The allergist/pulmonologist I saw pre-surgery thought I had silent GERD, but I wasn't convinced. He thought it was contributing to my asthma... He wanted me to take that 24hr test to measure acid that Stacy described but I wouldn't do it....again because I wasn't convinced.
I do have acid problems since RNY, what was silent isn't so silent anymore. I was on PPIs for 2 years, after year one and I was still complaining of pain they finally figured out I had a hernia. The hernia was definitely contribution to the gasto distress I was having. I thought it would be all hunky dory once the hernia was fixed, and I did wean myself off the PPIs... but I have had occasional flare-ups where it get triggered and I seem to need the PPI again and then after a few weeks I wean myself off again. My 2 bouts with antibiotics this winter seemed to have messed up the balance, so right now I am back on them.
For me I would say it feels like a lump in my throat, esp. when eating. Not what you would call 'heartburn'... I know none of this probably helps, but I am thinking out loud..... it annoys me that it still exists...
I also find it interesting to see if there is a test to see if PPIs really are helping you....
Reading this makes me think I should investigate more for myself...but never know where to start...

For anyone who is interested the genetic test is for Cytochrome P450 2C19 genotype. It was a simple blood test. The mutation affects lanzoprasole, omeprazole and Pantoprazole. It also affects other drugs including certain antidepressants and antieleptics. If anyone has any questions I'd be happy to answer any that I can

I don't have this issue, but I learned SO much from reading your responses. Thank you so much for taking the time to write all this out to help my friend Gwen.
You are really paying it forward.

Wow! What a great thread. I don't have this problem, at least not yet. But if I ever do it's good to know where to review all this good info.
Thanks to all who threw down here.

I didn't have the usual reflux.I had a lump in my throat and developed a really bad cough. Then I was hoarse .Went to Ear Nos and Throat Dr.He said acid reflux.Tried some new meds. Then went to my Weight loss Dr.He did endoscope and upper GI.bad acid reflux. Failed Hiatal Hernia. My sleeved stomach was pushing upward because it failed to.Had my revision Nov 2016,No more issues. My insurance denied it at first, they thought it was for weight loss.I gathered my primary care Dr records and ENT records and then my Dr did a a Peer To Peer.He made them understand it was about acid reflux and preserving my esophagus. They approved it.
Hope this helps.
Thank you!
