Liquid phase

So far so good. About 8 lbs down after surgery Monday, feeling great and little to no discomfort from day 1.

I could actually sleep on my side last night which was a blessing for my back.

My question: when eating a half cup of jello (recommended snack) I'm getting through it in what seems like no time. Maybe 15 minutes at most. I take a spoonful or two, feel full for a minute and then I'm good. No pain, no vomiting. My meals are liquid, 1/2 cup broth and 1/2 cup diluted juice and don't take me the hour recommended either. I have slowed that down on purpose but it's still at most 40 minutes, usually 30.

Someone I know that's had the rny is shocked at how fast I get through stuff. "that jello would've taken me an hour!!!" "Holy you're eating fast, remember your pouch is healing" (As if I could frigging forget that).

it makes me feel like I'm either doing things wrong, or damaging things internally. I don't feel any pain, so it makes me think my pouch is bigger than an egg like the clinic says.

Is time that much of a factor here, or is it just that we're all different?

Everyone is different. However, you just had surgery and your nerves have been cut and you are not feeling sensations like you normally do. Since you are in the liquid phase, the foods you are getting in, are ones that will go down easily and some people can get them down pretty fast. However, the goal is to set a pace that allows you to eat more slowly and become accustomed to that pace, so that once you progress through your post-op diet, you do not have pain or discomfort from eating too fast or too much, too quickly.

My advice is not to compare yourself to anyone else, we are all different. But, do try to adapt to slower eating so you can guage how you feel after each bite. Even to this day, if I am eating at my desk or not paying close attention, I can get a bite in that might be too soon after a previous bite and I will feel immediate pain and have to wait for it to pass before I can resume eating. Sometimes, I can't even continue to eat because the pain is so bad. You definitely don't want to get there this soon after surgery, so just take your time and enjoy the food you are eating!

Best of luck!

Nik

Thank you! That makes perfect sense and connects the dots.

I think we are different, some people just have an easier time than others. You will see posts on here from people who just had surgery wondering if they are ok lol. You know you had surgery but everything is going down real easy lol. That's how it was for me

Good luck, remember to sip sip sip, get in your liquids

Congrats on the weight loss!

As Loril and Nik said everyone is different. I am 5 months out and it still takes me a long time to get jello down. I didn't have an issue with other liquids which made it easier to get all of my post-op protein in with the shakes but I did use it as an opportunity to pace myself for the next phase of eating. Just the thought of being able eat mushy foods gets to be exciting towards the end of the liquids cause it's something different. The pacing really helps when you get to that stage.
