Thanks!  How do restaurants treat you when you order one meal for two of you?

It's never even come up or been questioned. We just say something like, "We're going to have the mussels with side salad to share" for example (i've been craving muscles hahah) Sometimes they bring one meal with a sideplate, but a lot of places will actually plate on two separate plates.

This is something we did a lot pre op too.

Glad you did well going out. I remember going out was kinda scary at first. We go out a lot. Almost every place we go to I make sure I read the menu first.

Never go when you are really hungry. I know for me that can be trouble.

Learning that it is okay to throw food away helps me. I tell myself I am not a human trash can.

Diners are a great place to go. At least for me they are. I know I can always get an omelette. Some places like IHOP be careful since they put pancake batter in there omelettes. That is what I have heard. Not sure if it is true. But the calories for them are huge.

I have had a hard time with the throwing away of food, but I'm getting better! It's truly hard to adjust to that!

yeah, I get it!  We can't eat all of the leftovers!  I wish someone would think about putting smaller portions on the menu!

It is true and I was PISSED when I found out. Now if I go, I ask for "shell eggs" and they'll make an omelette or scrambled eggs from just eggs. I am not 100% sure, but Denny's might do it too. I asked the waiter we had last time we went, and he didn't seem really sure if their eggs contain pancake batter, but he brought me shell egg scrambled eggs just to be safe. IMO, the shell egg dishes so much better than the crap with the pancake batter in it. The omelettes always tasted weird, and their texture freaked me out...now I know why!

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

While not a chain, I know you are in my area.  Golden Chef on Milwaukee in Wheeling has a number of diet items.  I steered clear for a year after they changed ownership.  I miss Ester and sad to hear that Wally died (longtime original owners).  Ester was a nutritionist and designed an entire diet menu.  I decided to give them a try last week and had their egg drop soup and a small order (2 patties) egg white veggie egg foo young (made without oil and gravy on side, no rice).  Oh and I added garlic to it.  I'm not sure if I was just in a food comma from all the liquid diet pre-surgery and soft food phase 1 and 2, but it was freakin fantastic.

I happened to have my nutritionist follow-up that afternoon before going, so she thought the meal was okay.  Only caution was sodium in the soup, but I'm not eating this often.  I might head back over the weekend.

Most Chinese take out places will make special food ie strained hot and sour soup  egg drop or wanton as long as you tell them your on a special diet. This worked well when going through stricture issues

Great choice for you!  I am three months out and have had that scary experienc several times!  I have found that mexican food is a great choice.  Sounds like exactly the opposite, but you can make it very wls feiendly.  Skip the chips, beans, rice and tortillas.  I go to Chipotle and have the bowl.  You can tell them exactly what you want and how much.  I have had the steak salad at other places.  You can get fajitas with only meat and veggies - skip the tortillas, rice and beans.  Lots of other good options.  I was thinking of trying sushi sometime, but am not sure about all the rice and whether I can get enough food with just raw fish.  Just don't eat in th hospital ;). Horrible options.

I went out for Japanese a couple of weeks ago with a group of friends. It was an all you can eat type place, so the value wasnt there for me, but there were plenty of wls friendly choices. Although you have to be careful with the sugar in some of the sauces and marinades. Some things i had bites of:sashimi, tataki, grilled chicken skewers, and a piece of crab wrapped in bacon. If it's an a la carte type place you go to, I would order a maki roll, without rice. just the wrap, fish, avocado or cucumber etc.
