Not tolerating Protein shakes

Hmm...since I was able to eat yogurt and cheese, I assumed I was not lactose intolerant.

I have some whey isolate, but have been mixing it with milk.  My daughter is lactose intolerant, so I'll try her lactose free milk or water to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the advice!

You have had good suggestions, it is hard in the beginning...not everything agrees with your new pouch. While I was told to work up to my protein levels the first couple of weeks... 40g is not the minimum, 60g a day is. The recommendations of ASMBS (American Society Metabolic and bariatric Surgery) who sets the standards is 60-80g a day. Eventually most people eat more and consider 80g the low end.

Good Luck!

Yes, several great suggestions!

My program said 40g for the first month and then 50-60 grams after that, so that is what I was following.  Right now my food intake is still quite low.  I assume at some point in the future, I will be able to take in more?  I see many people posting about breakfast, snack, lunch, supper, snack.  I feel like I am fortunate when I can get three meals in during the day!

My surgery was the 29th...just a week after you. I get in a shake and three meals/snacks. But my food is all very soft... no meat tolerated, eggs not so much either.

I haven't had any real problems with anything except the protein shakes.  We make Swai (a tender white fish) at home and the first time I ate it while on soft foods, no problem.  The second time, I was starting to get a weird sensation, so I just quit after a couple of bites and warmed up a turkey ricotta meatball.

Tonight we are having a roast (made in the crockpot).  This will be a first since surgery.  We'll see how that goes.

Have you lost 40+ lbs since surgery!?!  To date I am at 17.2 lbs since surgery, but 60 lbs since February when I started the program.  I feel like my weight loss since surgery is slow.

Thanks for replying!

Weight loss varies greatly after surgery.... Separate journey for us each.  I had my surgery 18 days ago, 33 lost all together but only 11 since surgery.  It takes time!  Regarding food, it is so funny what we tolerate.  First time I tried pureed turkey chili, I loved it.  Second time it was ok,  third time the smell of it cooking made me sick.  I tried ham and chicken but felt terrible so back to basics for me for a few more days. Only thing guaranteed every time for me is cottage cheese and refried beans ;). I think we will learn as we go!

I'm almost 3 weeks out. I've had a hard time with shakes too. I found Trimino protein water in the grocery store water section. 16 Oz 7 gms protein. Not too much protein, but it tastes pretty good and any extra fluid with protein is a bonus!
