There are definitely vegan protein shakes and tofu is a great source of protein.  I love the Nasoya baked tofu blocks and they're got very decent protein:calorie stats.

It will be challenging to get the protein you need at the right caloric levels with a vegan diet, but it is possible as long as you are super conscientious in your planning.

My bff is vegan and I know I'd have a very hard time maintaining a post-op diet with that lifestyle :/

All the successful really long term WLSers I know have one thing in common. They came up with an eating plan that they could maintain for life. Do you think that you can continue to get a large portion of your nutrition from protein drinks, for life? You can, of course, but will you?

Dr Garth out of Houston who performs wls recommends vegan diets to everyone. I Have never seen him respond to bariatric patients specifically on his Facebook page but always wondered what he suggests to these people. I can't imagine how people would meet protein requirements that most of us are given on a vegan diet. I'm fascinated by this doctor because his views are so different than anything I've ever heard of. One of the more edgy things (imo) is that he believes high consumption of meat causes diabetes due to the antibiotics/hormones in the meat. It seems really far fetched to me but it's entertaining to watch from time to time.

I I would be interested in seeing some sample menus if there are some vegans out there.

Garth has decided he wanted to sell books instead of being realistic. He,s a kook!
