RNY 3 year post op and having several weeks now of bowel problems - anyone have any...

I've been taking Senna S  two in am and two in PM that didn't work so I added one glass of prune juice then two along with Senna S's and I called my Surgeon's office and I haven't gotten my blood work done yet for my 3 year check up and was told to do so but I keep forgetting with feeling so bad and bloated.  The nurse told me to take up to three doses of Miralax a day and I began with two a day and I'm getting scared,.

Does anyone know symptoms of a blocked or semi blocked colon?  I have to push so hard it feels as if my head will pop off and I might get a little and at first it was hard and round heavy stools and now it is really soft but still have to push to get out any.

I have several questions about how they find the blockage if that's it when you can't get cleaned out.  I heard on Dr. Oz today of a Squatty Potty to help with my problem and I am going to try it,

This is the first time in 3 years I have had this problem to this degree of having to push so hard it feels as if my head will pop and the rocking is hurting my back for which I already suffer chronic pain from 3 failed back surgeries and nerve damage down one leg and lots of numbness down left leg and foot and now my big toe on my right foot is numb..  So I'm afraid I will hurt myself in more than one way.

Please; if anyone has any experience with this I would love to hear your symptoms and procedures.

If it is a blockage they find it with a catscan and then send you home with medicine to get it cleaned out.  Have you used enemas yet?

Wow, I'm actually a bit surprised you made it 3 years without having this problem. I second White Dove, have you tried an enema yet? That might be just the ticket. (I love the squatty potty video with the unicorn pooping the rainbow soft serve. Hah!)

But I digress...its really common to have issues having a BM. I have taken a dose of Miralax a day since about 4 months post-op. I get the generic from Amazon. I get 3 of the large bottles for the price of 2. (Yes sadly that is excitment in my world)

You might have to add a daily dose. You will find people here that need to take 2 doses a day. Or they have to add a stool softener to the daily dose.

Remember Miralax takes a couple of days to work and you have to get out the harder stuff first. It works on the new poo not the old poo that's been hanging around.

So yea, you are probably going to get quite a few replies to folks who have had this issue. You'll get some good ideas I'm sure.

But I really would consider an enema.

I feel silly. Never once thought of either place. Thank you. My husband was just talking about us getting a Costco membership and I wasn't sure it would be worth it. I think the laxative savings alone might pay for the membership.

I did not buy a squatty potty but i put a small stool next to.my toilet snd when i need to do.my poo (which is often) i just place the stool in front of the toilet.
My understanding of a bowel obstruction is toileting difficulties with severity veing sitting on the toilet and not be able to poo but hsving nausea wnd vomiting.
Go to you GP to be physically examined asyou might be sent to hosent to hospital to fo a ct.. sometimes there is need for a colonoscopy

Go to the Pharmacy and buy some flavored magnesium citrate.  Putting fibre on top of a blockage is not a good idea ...   You could also try a fleet enema to clear out the back end.

If you go to the ER, this is what they will tell you to do.  Save yourself the co-pay

Oh, and stop the senna, it makes your motility sluggish and is not supposed to be used long term - this is possibly the source of your problem!

I feel your pain. I have had this issue as well. My PM Doctor told me to use Fleet. It really helps me.

Thank you all for all your support and ideas.   I am finally having some luck but I still have to push too hard to get out soft movements.  This cannot get normal can it?  I feel that if I finally got it to this form I should not have to push so hard
