Lap Band removed in 2013~ Possible RNY early 2016?

I've been reading for a bit now and wanted to pose a question about a "revision surgery". I had lap band surgery in 2011, lost around 80 pounds, was massively sick for a year and a half with vomiting, reflux, etc and had a slip in 2013 which necessitated a removal of the band. I've gained back all of the weight I lost plus some. Obviously I've not been eating the "bariatric portions" or followed the plan I used when I had the band.

With this sort of a gap between band removal and RNY in spring of 2016 (my insurance requires a 3 month medically supervised diet), should I expect a slow weight loss that's associated with revisions? I know it's anybody's guess, just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

I should have had RNY the first time, but you know what they say about hindsight....

I have a friend Rose who had the band and now a year ago had RNY. She is a huge success and the reason i had RNY 10 months ago. Great that your insurance will pay. Good luck.

With RNY you should have no vomiting or reflux. Follow a healthy bariatric diet, exercise and take your vitamins and supplements. Make up your mind to do your part and to be successful. The slow weight loss associated with revisions is revision from RNY to RNY. The loss is slow because there is usually no new malabsorption. You will have malabsorption for the first time and an opportunity to take full advantage of it.

Best thing I ever did revising to RNY from the Lap Band! And my weightloss was very typical of a newbie RNY patient. At 12 months post-op I lost 110% of my excess weight and at 27 months post-op I am below goal and maintaining.

For me there hasn't been a single day of vomiting, sliming, pain while eating, choking or misery. RNY has been a simple and effective tool for me - I'm certain you will be happier than with your Band given the complications you've experienced.

Good luck on your journey!

I'm 3.5 months out from revision from band to bypass and SO happy with my decision. I feel so much physically better than I ever did with the band. It took a few months but my reflex is now GONE!!!

Revison is causing me to be a slow loser but im plugging along and doing great. No complaints :)

I had my 2nd band removed in 2013, as it got infected and almost killed me :( However, now i sit here almost 6 months out from my RNY this year and it was THE BEST decision ive made!! I should have had RNY the first time, four surgeries later and 18 holes in my abdomen im finally here... YOU can do this!

Regarding the band/slowness, my doc had to my make my stomach pouch bigger because of the scar tissue still left from the band, however.. im down almost 110pounds at 6mths post op and still plugging along! I follow the plan, exercise, and stay low carb/no sugar; you can so this :)) Im here if you ever have any questions :))
