In need of some positive vibes..
Hello Everyone! I just joined the group. I just need some positive vibes.. I was super worried about having RNY and was really wanting the sleeve. After some testing sleeve was no longer an option due to a hypotensive LES. I went forward with the RNY and my surgery was 10/21, HW 280 SW 245 CW 230. I'm happy with my results but still sit with worry about intestinal complications. I was in another virtual support group but in the couple days That I have been reading things on that site, Ihave read a lot about people knowing people who have had major issues with rny. I was just hoping I could hear some successes and people who are super glad they've done it. I'm happy I'm losing but guess I'm just still scared of the what ifs. Thanks!!!
You have come to the right place. While some people have issues with RNY, most of us are complication free. I've had a few hiccups, I irritated my pouch by progressing my diet too quickly, I've been seriously constipated, but that was because I want proactive in handling my business.
Don't panic, everything will be just fine.
Congrats on your new tool, there are a bunch of people here who can help allay your fears.
I also highly recommend the What's on your Menu thread. It will help you get some idea of the types of foods that are good when you progress your diet and it's a way to keep yourself accountable. I guess I should go add the handful of chips I had as a snack today. ?
These forums have been a Godsend.
When you say irritated what do you mean? I am in the beginning of week 3, i am trying yogurt (thinner then pudding) everywhere I see pudding is ok on the full liquid diet, my nutritionist said no but jello was ok (makes no sense to me) I can eat pudding just fine as I hold it in my mouth and it just turns to tasty saliva (that sounds kinda gross) but yogurt is the same Jello goes down in gooey chunks. How did you know it was a problem?
I tried to eat ground turkey in the pureed phase... yeah. that was a huge mistake. I honestly thought that I had damaged my pouch, the pain was incredible. I ended up in the ER and they did a CT to make sure that the pouch wasn't damaged. I stayed in the ER overnight and was released the next day. I reset to a liquid diet for a few days to let my pouch calm down.
Believe me, you will know if you over do it. the first few weeks you won't have too much pain if you eat too much, but once all the nerves start to heal and the swelling goes down, your pouch will tell you what is bad.
I would just follow what your NUT recommends. When do you move to pureed foods?
had RNY 7 month ago. Had MAJOR(Life threatening complications). wouldnt change it for a thing. SUPER happy. I am doing things I never would have dreamed of earlier this year.
