The effects of NSAIDs are systemic and have nothing to do with where they are absorbed.

What Chulbert said. It doesn't matter how you take them, they all end up affecting you the same.

I've been told no on NSAID creams by every medical professional familiar with bariatric surgery for the reason you mentioned, that the ulcer risk is systemic via the blood stream, not from the pill "touching" your stomach.

Like others have stated, NSAIDs are systematic; they don't need to touch your stomach to be problematic. In fact, the main concern is that you will develop an ulcer in your remnant stomach, which is much more difficult to treat.

If I were you, I'd be concerned your PCP is not familiar with the needs of WLS postops. While not necessarily a reason to find another doctor, you may need to help educate him on issues such as this.

I agree about educating the Dr...but unfortunately it's not just him...it's MOST Doctors =/
