Nothing bursts your bubble faster than walking into a new WLS support group this week - 10 months out, 107 lbs down, with 14 lbs to go to hit my first goal...out of plus sizes...feeling really good about myself....then sitting next to someone 2 weeks out who asks if I've "had the surgery yet"!!!!!

SIGH....

Banded 12/18/08.  Band removed and revision to RNY on 12/15/14.

You are doing amazing!! don't let it get you down. They were probably new and didn't mean anything by it. It is natural for people to ask if you have surgery when you are at a surgery support group.

Open mouth, inset foot. That's like when I was still MO and people would ask me when I was due. I'd often say I was about 6 months overdue, and just leave them looking confused.

How did they respond when you told them your stats?

I don't think I would have been offended. I would have taken the opportunity to tell them how far out I was, how much weight I had lost and how great I now feel! Give them something to look forward to. Be proud of your incredible accomplishment!!

When I reported my recent bowel obstruction surgery at WLS support group, a member responded, "darn it, I thought of you as one of my role models." I've been de-throned.

Lmao, like you're not worthy because you had a complication that you have no control over?

People don't think before they speak. I believe it's an epidemic. I'm think you look fabulous, don't pay them any mind.

At the first local meeting I went to, they went around the room asking what surgery you had, when, and how much you'd lost. One woman said she'd lost 190 pounds from RNY 6 years prior. A newbie said "That's great, but why did you stop there?"
