What's On Your Monday Menu, RNYers?
Morning! I'm off today. We used most of the weekend to get the basement fixed. We painted it, and put down the new carpet. Hubby will do the rest since that's mostly his domain. I've got $20 in Macy's money burning a hole in my pocket... May swing by the mall and pick up my 1/2 way to goal gift to myself.
Question? What's your food gateway 'drug'; the food that if you eat it, it begins down that slippery slope of old habits. As I come up on six months I'm amazed at how much I've successfully avoided eating for this long.
I have two, juice--- any kind of sweetened beverage is addictive to me, I think I drank more calories than I ate. Other is sweets: cakes, pastries, donuts, pies etc. Problem is I can't eat just one, and would have to have a 'dessert' with each meal.
Breakfast: fried egg and turkey sausage
Lunch: leftovers: chili or roast beef
Snack: fruit cup, cashews and cheese stick
Dinner: whichever leftover I didn't have for lunch.

Hmmm....I still MAJORLY have a sweet tooth. More than anything that's a gateway for me. It leads to the "well I already effed up the day, why not just have chips, too?" kind of thinking.
Several years ago I did an Optifast program at my local hospital. There was an AMAZING nut who was part of the support team and she told us a story of a guy who had participated a few years before and he had this huge A-HA MOMENT when coming to group one day. He hit the car really hard when trying to park and blew out his tire and in that moment he thought to himself "Holy **** when I make a not great choice for food, I make that an excuse to make MORE poor choices, why not, I already messed up. But I'm not about to continue hitting the curb and busts the rest of my tires just because I blew one - why doesn't the same logic hold true for my food choices." That was an awesome analogy as far as I am concerned - even though I struggle with it basically every. single. day.

So apparently that story is more an urban legend than a real life tale? Well, regardless - it's a good one!

my trigger foods are really mood dependent. Sweets/chocolate don't normally do anything for me, but some days, I have to use every ounce of strength I have to resist. Hormones??? The other is rice. I made dinner for my mother the other night. Very healthy chicken and broccoli. I made her rice as a side dish. I could have sat down and eaten the entire serving bowl of the rice. it was SO HARD to resist. I'm 17 months post surgery and haven't had a grain of the stuff because I'm convinced it would lead me down a dark, dismal path. When it comes to rice there is no such thing as moderation for me. It is bad news!

Morning everyone, I am thrilled to report that I did my first post-op 5K on Saturday! I ran way further than I thought I would--almost 2.5 miles of it! Now I am not sure my legs will ever work again, but it was worth it!
Speaking of the update--I have no idea how to post a pic, now, to prove I did it! "Copy" no longer works...?

Taking it easy today, but it's beautiful out, so I am hoping to get out from under this pile of homework and housecleaning and take a long walk.
