New to group and surgery cancellation question
Hi everyone. My RNY was scheduled for Monday the 5th, but I had a sever pain in my side when I arrived. My doc ordered a CT and I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis and sent home. I will be rescheduling after I get a clear colonoscopy in December. I was wondering if anyone else had issues like this or had to reschedule. I find myself questioning the whole thing, but mostly leaning to yea, because the reasons I wanted this in the first place still exist. Anyway, just looking for thoughts on anyone who had to cancel and re-schedule.
I have not had anything like that happen to me. I feel bad that your surgery is delayed. But it will happen. My husband was hospitalized for diverticulitis. I think he was on IV antibiotics for serveral days. Be glad that it happened before surgery and not after they did surgery. You wouldn't want to be fighting an infection at the same time as surgery. Good luck to you, and use the time to lose more weight on your own.

I, too have Diverticulitis and was terrified that after waiting almost a year and a half for my surgery date that I'd have a flare-up at the last minute and have to cancel. I was lucky and everything went as scheduled.
I just wanted to chime in and say I haven't had a single flare up since surgery (almost 8 months now) and I believe that for me, Diverticulitis was just another terrible side effect from being overweight that is no longer a problem. I mean... it's still there (saw it on a recent colonoscopy) but with my new stomach and diet, flare-ups seem to be a thing of the past! Hope it works the same for you.
Good luck.
Hi. I didn't have diverticulitis but I did cancel my own surgery out of fear 3 days before I was supposed to have it. I later regretted it and rescheduled, which luckily for me I didn't have to repeat any of the pre tests. When I went to my second pre-op I was told in no uncertain terms that if I cancelled again I would be looking for another dr. I was too afraid of the doctor to cancel again. lol I'm glad I went through with it. I had a previous surgery and on the day of surgery I woke up with a cold and also we had a freak snow storm. We had to leave for the hospital early before they plowed the road so dr45rkdove through the storm, got prepped for surgery only to discover that I had a fever. They sent me home.
