So question for the vets about the liquid diet

Now, opposite to everyone else said - I think smoothies like that have place and time in post op life.

Maybe not a lot of fruits - I do limit my "liquid" sugars to 5 grper 12-14 oz serving, and no more than 10-12 gr of carbs...per that drink, with app 20 gr of proteins and some fat...

so - when that drink will be good?

  1. full liquid diet
  2. when the pouch is upset and eating solids is just no going to happen
  3. when I have ulcer/ very irritated pouch and I really don't want to eat anything that will stay in the pouch, but still need some nutrition..
  4. when I absolutely positively have no appetite and I need to get something "in me"
  5. oral issues - like oral surgery - when chewing food is just not going to happen
  6. and last but not least: when I am really constipated and need to be on more liquid than solid diet while I am working to make sure things are really "moving"...

There is time and place for everything... I can't digest greens - raw foods very well. so I do make my own mineral rich drink (green) ... but I do limit sugars and carbs...

Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon at the Michigan Weight Mgt Institute has an internet video (drmatthewweiner.com) that discusses something called a "Set Point Smoothie" that might be of interest to you.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm still in the pre-op phase, I'm waiting on insurance approval so I can get a surgery date scheduled. I'm trying to figure out a good plan of action for after my surgery; I really don't trust the nutritionist at my surgeons office after reading some of the posts on here and looking over the diet plan she gave me. I do have an appointment with a dietitian next week, I'm going to take all of my research to her and see if she has a better plan than the one I was given. It had me eating soft foods 2 weeks out and I really don't feel like that is safe. I also think that will end up with me in a great deal of pain with my new little pouch.

I really appreciate all of the advice and I will most definitely take it to heart!
