HORRIBLE Constipation!
Good Morning fellow RNYers,
I had surgery on 8/4/15, and aside from the fairly benign things that have happened to me thus far, NOTHING, and I mean N O T H I N G...compares to the feeling I've had of giving birth via my butt every three days. Despite drowning myself in fluids, eating a varied diet of mostly protein (but lots of veges too), I have not had success in getting things moving. As TMI might have it, I nearly passed out, broke out in a sweat and forced myself via holing onto the toilet seat and screaming in silence, to get the softball sized mass OUT of me last night. This morning, I am in pain! I can hardly sit and the thought of going through that again...ever....makes me shudder in fear.
What on earth can I do??? Any recommendations? I am desperate?
Thanks!
For the first six months after surgery, I had to take stool softners and Miralax daily to keep things moving. If I even skipped one day, I had the problem you're having. The problem resolved itself after about six months for me. Speak with your physician about what you need to do to treat your constipation. It's very common and very terrible. Good luck!

over 2 years out and I still use a scoop of benifiber in my coffee everyday. I use to need benefiber and miralax everyday! EVERYDAY! I will probably never be able to just use fibrous food for this. Its like the multi vitamins just something I will need for ever

Nice to meet you! I am so sorry that you are having the same problem. My sympathies for sure! It is the purest form of hell to have to go to the bathroom and not be able to. I thought I might have to go to the ER, because I could no longer pee either. Now, I have have pain. Still, it beats that feeling of fullness and the urge to go when you can't. Oh my, this is not what I signed up for when I agreed to surgery!

At 5 months out, the only way I keep things moving occasionally (and even then not as regularly as I'd like) is a scoop of fiber in the morning protein shake, 2 stool softeners every night, and a swig of milk of magnesia every other day or so. I'm switching from ferrous sulfate to carbonyl iron for my supplemental iron as it shows up from Amazon too. I get easily over 100 oz. of liquids a day and still have this problem...sometimes I make myself bleed and then hurt for days afterwards. It's miserable!
You can pry my Miralax from my cold dead hands! I take one dose EVERY DAY, it has been the only thing to help! I buy the Walmart brand, and also just got a prescription for it so it would be cheaper :)
I was NEVER in my life constipated before surgery, and after ...just horrible!
