Surgery Confusion?
You might want to visit the Revision forum---it's for people who have had or are planning to have a revision from one surgery type to another, or a 'do over' of their original surgery type.
Statistically, the excess weight lost and KEPT OFF are about the same for the Sleeve and the RNY at five years post-op. I urge you to choose your surgery based on what sort of post-op lifestyle YOU want to live with. The RNY will require you to take vitamins and mineral supplements daily for the rest of your life, and to get regular lab work done to make sure you're taking what YOU need. Now, I have a DS, the Big Dog Daddy of WLS, and taking vites four times a day is no bigger for ME---but I know folks who simply cannot force themselves to form this habit, and they certainly do NOT need a malabsorptive surgery.
The Sleeve has been around as a stand-alone surgery for weight loss for about a decade now. It's been the stomach portion of the DS since 1988, and it's been performed to treat ulcers, cancer, etc. for about a century. I think you can say it's got some longevity. (*grin*)
