Surgery questions? length of stay, other things I may be unaware of
I stayed 2 nights in the hospital.
No lovenox injections
Yes I had a drain, it was removed just before I left the hospital
I had wet sponges to suck on, then ice chips only the day after surgery until after I had a "leak test" then I was given broth and tea and protein drink. I drank the tea and some broth, but did not want the protein drink that day. I did sip a little of that on the day I was released.
on 9/28/15 11:04 am
3 days, 2 nights
No to injections
No drain
Yes catheter until end of day 2
Drank water, broth and jello
Only other thing I can think of: stop taking the pain meds as soon as you feel like you can and switch to something more mild. They approved me for whatever I needed, but I didn't know it would cause bowel problems. TMI: About 10 days post op, after being constipated for as long, I had a terrible fecal impaction that was terrifying. If I hadn't been alone, I would have gone to the ER and probably should have. I felt like I was dying for about 3 hours until it was resolved. Very unpleasant and painful.
How long was your hospital stay? 1 night was on way home by noon next day.
Did you have to have the lovonox injections? Do not recall having any injections.
Was there a drain? No did not have any drains.
Was the catheter in once you got out, or was it already out? Did not have a cath.
What did you drink in hospital? All I had to drink was sipped on a crystal light and it was a lemonade and I remember thinking it was so sweet.
Anything else that isn't mentioned? Just get up and get moving as much as you can. Remember walk walk walk!!
Best wishes to you!!
1 overnight
yes, had injections
no drains
they took it out shortly after surgery
ice chips until the leak test the next day. after the leak test, my doc had a "challenge" where you had to consume so much liquid. It included broth, jello, protein shake and water.
keep walking. it made me feel like the gas was going away faster. sip sip sip - i had to return to the hospital a few days after discharge from dehydration.
Good luck!!!!
