Happy Hour

So I'm 2 1/2 months post op and doing great. I'm a teacher and one of the things my co-workers and I love to do is go out for happy hour after work on Fridays. I don't plan on drinking for at least a year because I don't know how it will affect me. I haven't told these people that I had this surgery. I want to still be social with my friends and go out with them but I am trying to figure out what I can drink besides water. Any ideas?

I always ask the bartender for a glass of water and add my Crystal light to it. I give them a tip like if I was drinking.

I have friends who ask for a double vodka and water and mix Crystal light with it I will clarify they did not have WLS.

Smuggle in a Power Ade Zero....

Or a single serve crystal light....

Or get an iced tea...

Is there anything safe to order?

If you want to order something and still look like you're drinking alcohol, you can try:

OJ watered down with water as a virgin screwdriver

Water in a tumbler with ice and a lime wedge

My favorite: A virgin bloody mary.

All safe when sipped slowly,

I'll get an Arnold Palmer if I'm at a bar. I feel all fancy ordering a drink with a proper name!

Okay, you might think I am crazy, but I carry my tervis tumbler everywhere (including bars).  I go with my husband and bring in my tumbler.  The bars don't care.  The people I am with are drinking.  The people you are with will probably notice that you aren't drinking . . . it's okay, just tell them you are making a healthy change in your life . . . it's true after all.

It is true, people don't pay that much attention to what you are eating or drinking, unless you make a big deal about it.
