Horrible mood swings?

I must be honest and start off by sharing that I suffer from depression and anxiety, but prior to surgery seemed to have everything under control.  My meds were working and I was in a pretty good place most of the time.

I am 3 1/2 months post surgery and my moods are all over the place.  I have had the added stress of having had surgery on May 18 and my beloved dad passing away the next morning.  I'm sure part of this is grieving that loss, but everything just seems to be "bigger" than usual for me.

Have any of you gone through this?  If so, how long did it take for things to kind of settle down again?  I'm really struggling right now.

I never said it would be easy. I said it would be worth it.

If you are not getting grief counseling please contact your local hospice.  They can help.  For me grief felt like I was in a fog.  My grief counselor told me to remember that fog lifts.

I am sorry for the loss of your Dad. Yes, grief is a real probability. Also, may be absorbing your medication differently. Person who prescribed may or may not have detail knowledge of wls surgery impact on this. Worthy of discussion with MD, your surgeon and pharmacist.

i am new to all this, surgery 5 weeks ago, but my moods are sure all over the place and my past go to comfort of food is no longer available. I think we need to be quicker to seek support than in the past.

I wish you the best.

Very sorry to hear of your situation. My heart goes out to you.

Are you taking any medication to address mental health issues such as anti-depressants/anti-anxiety meds? If so, because of the surgery you will not be absorbing them in the same way as pre-op and will need to speak with your prescribing doctor about changing the dosage.

Yes I had (and still have) horrible mood swings...especially during PMS.  I'm a real ***** to be around.  In the beginning, your body is going through a whole lot, including hormone dumping.  I think it's totally normal to feel out of sorts and not yourself.  Around 6 months I started to feel like I fit in my body, if that makes sense.  Hang in there.
