I have to take miralax daily to keep things moving.  Iron does a number on me too, but we need it.  I hope you're feeling better.

Echoing iloveraven's comment about Miralax.  I had surgery on 7/27, and after being constipated from the pain meds, it finally got things moving.  I haven't had an issue since.

Be sure to try and keep fibre in your diet, too.  *nods*

I hope you're feeling better, and congrats on the surgery!  *hugs*

The nurse I spoke to yesterday said I should have been taking miralax all along, but that was not on my instructions. I will start taking it regularly after I finish the colace.

Thanks

Very cool-  You'll find it does wonders.  Just take it for a few days until things are okay, though like iloveravens, your body may need it daily.  My nurse said it's the gentlest and most effective one out there, and after years of trying various ones, she is right.

Take care,

I take a multi without iron, and separately take a form of iron called Carbonyl iron, the brand is Sundown Naturals-I can buy mine at Publix, but I think CVS carries it too. For a lot of people, it's gentler on their systems and won't cause constipation, and absorbs better. I didn't like taking the form of iron found in the multi I started out taking; even before surgery, the "ferrous" types of iron caused problems for me. That being said, I also take Miralax daily.

As far as doing the right thing; it's not like you were doing the wrong thing. You did follow your instructions. Sometimes things need tweaking. It's trial and error. It takes a while to find what works for you.

Thank you, everyone for your comments and ideas. I think I will change out the multi and add the more friendly iron.  I did not take any vitamins yesterday. Hard to leave the house today, due to these troubles.

I appreciate ate the support.

I take a brand called Vitron-C for my iron. The vitamin C in it helps the iron be absorbed.  I also need to take Miralax every day to keep things moving. Constipation is the worst.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you. I got liquid multi without iron. Time to add better iron back in. Today is the first day I feel safe stepping out of the house. A lost weekend. Feeling weak again, but that will pass.  This bout was way worse than the surgery itself. Not sure how to add in fiber, will consult with MD. Having trouble right now getting all the protein in, will lean on shakes again for a bit.

thanks again to everyone for the ideas, experience and support.
