That's really interesting. I had no idea that some patients don't require a liquid diet. How are you doing with South Beach?

My surgery date is scheduled for August 20th, 2015. It still doesn't feel real. I think my family is more worried about it then i have been. I hope i am mentally prepared for the dramatic lifestyle change. Best of luck to you!

That's so exciting! Please keep in touch and let me know how it goes and how you feel. I will absolutely have you in my thoughts and prayers!! It doesn't feel real for me either. I just feel like I never believed it would happen with all the hoops I was jumping through and everything in order to get all of my requirements for surgery. I almost feel like if I accept that it's really happening it won't happen. I know that probably sounds crazy. I am actually a really positive person when it comes to other people but I've had so many false hopes in the past that I just keep waiting for the bottom to fall out. I almost feel like I won't believe it until I awake from surgery and they tell me it was a success, God willing.

I totally relate to what you are talking about. It has felt like one thing after another has happened to make me think the surgery wouldn't happen. Just last week there was talk that I would have to put it off because my iron level is low. My surgeon had me come in for a colonoscopy before he could give the finally okay on the surgery. Maybe my iron is low from them continuously poking me for all the blood works lol. I will be thinking of you!

I had RNY 4/22/15 and ended up having my gall bladder removed and two hernias repaired at the same time. I was more sore from the hernia repair than the other laproscope incisions, but after a couple weeks, felt much better. I took 2 weeks off from work and went back with no problem. So far, I've lost 73 pounds and feel better than I have in ages. I have arthritis in both my knees (I'm 60) so exercise is difficult for me. Like everyone else will tell you, walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip. I'm on a normal diet now and use MyFitnessPal to record my foods. When I went in for my 3 month checkup, my NUT suggested I keep a diary. I like MyFitnessPal. Don't be nervous about the actual surgery, its no walk in the park, but its not that bad. Best of luck you! See you on the losers bench!!

73 pounds in 4 months is incredible! Congratulations and bravo on your hard work to get where you are today! I also need to have a hiatal hernia repaired. The doctor said that it's a small one so it shouldn't be super invasive so that puts me at ease about it. I'm sure people have told you about this already, but if you can find a water aerobics class, or even if you just put on the radio and dance in the pool or just walk in circles in a pool (if you have one- I don't lol) it's great exercise and a little less pressure on your knees. I haven't been diagnosed with arthritis (I'm 26) but I am very obese (currently 391 pounds) and my knees and back hurt immensely when I work out, but I have found that when I go to my college's pool or a friend's pool to exercise, I can do SO much more. As for MyFitnessPal, my best friend and my cousin use it religiously and swear by it so keep up the good work and I'll meet you on the other side!!

Howdy all - my surgery is the 25th. By this time next week it'll be done. :)

I'm feeling good about all now, and can't wait for it. When I first got the actual surgery date though, the reality of it all hit me very hard, and I went through about 3 days of pretty big emotional rollercoasters, flip-flopping on whether I should even go through with it.

The few things that really helped me get through it and settle my emotions down were:
- Force myself to stop thinking and worrying about all the little things, and instead focus on the reasons I made the decision in the first place a year ago to start this journey
- Keep in mind that my surgeon has done hundreds of these, that this surgery has been performed for decades, and just put my trust and faith in her to do her job well. What will happen will happen, but in the end it will be better than not getting the surgery at all.
- I started making a list of all the things I want to do once I lose weight that I can't do, or have difficulty doing, now due to being obese, such as skydiving, rally race car driving lessons, scuba diving, sitting in an airplane seat without having to suck in my gut and cross my arms over my chest the entire flight, hiking up a miles-long mountain trail, snowboarding, etc. Thinking about the exciting, adventurous,  and healthy life I'm going to lead gets me psyched up. I'm ready for it!! :)
- And luckily, I have great support from my family and the few friends that know, so talking to them has a lot helped.

@peachpie - Great idea about both the daily journal and the vitamin app! Which app are you using?
