Walking seems to be a good way of exercise. I just walk around Costco or Home Depot sometimes. Park farther out from the store so I get in some exercise.

Do you journal your food? Sometimes we eat more than we should if we don't write it down. So we don't realize the extra calories.

My surgeon's office has an exercise physiologist that worked with me. I  have end stage arthritis in all my weight bearing joints and we came up with a routine to help me.

Think 'Active' rather than exercise. In the beginning (and I should do it again) I would put music on - If you have Pandora Radio App they even have cardio stations, I like 80's cardio- put your timer on for 30 minutes and just move and dance. Walking via shopping is good too if holding a cart makes it easier. Take extra laps around the store while you are there. The food store is good for that.

If you have never been to Physical Therapy I would go, they can give you a routine to stretch and strengthen that might make you feel better. I have bad arthritis as well, and I still do some of the things they gave me when I start to feel it.

Plateaus stink, but losing is mostly what we put into our mouths. Change up what you are eating, sometimes we get into a food rut, and don't be afraid of some fat. We need that too.

These are great ideas NYMOM!  Further, the dancing part is just FUN!

I have back and neck issues.  I usually walk, walk up stairs, and ride a stationary bike for exercise.  I also park out further when shopping, take stairs instead of elevators and work in extra walking where I can.

Best wishes,

Penny

Have you tried a pool? Swimming or even moving around in the water may be less painful. Good luck.

Walk more in small segments throughout yoru day.

Get specific back strenghting exercises and flexibility exercises from your physicial therapist and do those too.

I had back surgery about 5 years ago. I am strong now in ways that I never was before. Mainly because I did the exercises and stretches perscribed by the PT daily.
