Im curious if anyone has had more teeth problems after RNY? I see my doc on friday regarding my labs to see if im lacking vitamins somewhere, but my teeth are more problematic these days. I had RNY 4 years ago.

I have to say my teeth are better. But with that saying I have been going to the dentist every three months for cleaning. I was horrible about going to the dentist before. I hated it.

I know this isn't much help but maybe your labs will tell you something.

I have had several friends with severe dental problems after RNY, but I am not sure there is necessarily a correlation. Have you had a dexa scan lately to check the health of your bones??

Not sure if there is a correlation, but I have gone through some pretty bad dental problems over the last 4 years since my lap-band. 4 root canals in 1 year.  The dental work, plus all of the CHEWING I was diagnosed with TMJ and have been struggling with those jaw issues ever since.  I'm OK now on a daily basis (for a few months they had me on some pretty strong pain killers for it) however it does flare up when I have steak or really chewy chicken. Or popcorn, but I have given up popcorn!

11 years out and my teeth are better now than they ever were.  I eat a great diet and am vigilant with my vitamins.   I think these may be the reasons rather than directly because of my WLS.

I've been concerned about this,  too (I'm only three months post-up).   But I go to the dentist every three months (I have periodontal disease), I use a prescription high-fluoride toothpaste every night, I use a fluoride rinse every morning, I brush and floss regularly, and I'm diligent about keeping on top of my supplements and will be diligent about keeping on top of my labs as well.  So I'm doing everything I can possibly do on my end....there's not much more I can do.   Fingers crossed.  I'm also older, so any problems that crop up could potentially be due to aging, too.

btw - my dentist said he hasn't seen any problems with his patients who've had WLS, but who knows how many of us he has?  Five?  So I'm not sure whether I should be reassured by that or not...

I'm four years out and have not had any dental issues.

However, a year or two before surgery, I went through a period where I had a lot of cavities and other issues, even though nothing had changed with my diet or dental care. My dentist said it could have been related to hormonal issues. It was weird...I didn't have issues before or after that period in my life.  Just a thought.

Laura asked about the DEXA scan. That's something I would look into, because many times bone and teeth issues are related.
