10 months post op RNY and weight loss stalled. HELP?
Hi everyone, I am 10 months post op RNY and I have lost 84 lbs so far but for the last 3 months my weight loss has completely stalled. I have let a few carbs creep back in like Pretzels, but for the most part I only eat protein shakes and protein bars and vegetables. I have a lot of problems eating meat. I still throw up Chicken and hamburger or any solid piece of meat. Eggs don't set well either. I am scared of gaining the weight back. I have been through too much to let that happen. I had a small Ulcer 5 months ago but that has cleared up with medicine. I do have Digestion issues if I eat any Dairy, otherwise I am doing pretty good. That sounds like a lot of problems but considering everything I am not in bad shape. I have severe Arthritis in my knees and back so one of my problems is lack of exercise, I walk all I can. Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks
So you haven't lost anything from months 7-10? How close are you to your goal? You're in maintenance. I would start tracking everything you are eating. Go back to basics. Protein first, then veggies, and try to stay away from carbs. Drink a ton of water. Don't drink for at least 30 mins after meals. This is your honeymoon period, use it wisely to get back on track. Good luck!

What Lanie said. As far as weight goes, it doesn't matter what you eat, just how much. You can gain weight eating nothing but protein shakes.
Weigh your food and track your calories. Eat less, and you'll lose.

Have you talked to your doctor about why you're still having trouble with meats? Bars and shakes also aren't as filling as lean protein. If I were you, I'd first investigate what the issue is with meat. In the meantime, can you eat tofu or other non-meat proteins other than bars and shakes? I love frozen Gardein mock "chicken" strips with hot sauce and a little light ranch dressing.
I had RNY also 12/15/14. Have lost 68 pounds so you rock. My knees sometimes hurt so I walk and swim everyday for an hour. Can you swim? Do you have access to a pool? You are doing amazing so keep up the good work. Watch the carbs, they tend to sneak in for us but the weight loss Vets say they are a sin.

It sounds like you are having similar issues that I do. The tough part about RNY is that the easiest foods to eat are also the WRONG foods to eat. I fell into the trap of sliders (crunchy carbs for me) because dense protein and eggs felt horrible going down. Keep trying. I'm trying to wean myself off sliders and get the rest of the weight off and it's not easy but I do find that I can manage eggs now. 3 months ago they were a no-go. Don't give up.

You HAVE to find a way to eat meat. Keep trying. Maybe soft, fall apart, crock pot meats will work. The further out you get from surgery, the hungrier you will get. Dense proteins like meat are what will keep you satisfied. We can eat a TON of simple carbs and that leads to weight gain. Ditch the pretzels. They are empty calories with no nutritional value. Protein bars are nothing more than glorified candy bars. Get back to REAL food. If you don't get the carb monster under control you WILL gain weight.
